Percy Jackson Disney+ Poster Not part of Riordanverse

The following article/section is from the Percy Jackson Show continuity and not the Riordanverse canon.

This article is about the Disney+ character. You may be looking for the book character or the film character of the same name.

Alecto is one of the three Furies, the three chief servants of Hades, and the head torturers in the Underworld.

History[]

Alecto and her sisters serve Hades, the god of the Underworld, and are among his strongest soldiers. Her master sometimes sends her to the mortal world disguised as a human to punish those who have angered him.

Prior to the start of the series, Alecto and her sisters were sent after Thalia Grace, a forbidden half-blood child of Zeus. Thalia's traveling companions, Annabeth Chase, Luke Castellan, and Grover Underwood successfully made it to Camp Half-Blood, but Thalia insisted on staying behind to fight and was mortally wounded. To spare his daughter from the Fury's wrath in the Underworld, Zeus transformed his daughter into a tree on Half-Blood Hill.[1]

Percy Jackson and the Olympians (TV series)[]

Season One[]

"I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher"[]

Using the Mist, Alecto takes a teaching job at Yancy Academy under the alias "Mrs. Dodds". On Hades's orders, she uses her position to keep a watchful eye on a young but powerful unclaimed demigod, Percy Jackson. On a field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Alecto reveals her true form to Percy and demands to know where "it" is. When the boy reacts with confusion, she assumes he is mocking her and lunges to attack, only to be run through with a magical sword Percy received from "Mr. Brunner". Afterwards, the Mist erases all memory of "Mrs. Dodds" from the students and faculty of Yancy Academy.

"We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium"[]

Within a week, Alecto reforms and restarts her pursuit of Percy. She and her sister Tisiphone find the half-blood at a rest stop in New Jersey, accompanied by Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood. Annabeth quickly deduces that the mysterious older women are the Furies in disguise and secretly confronts Alecto. Alecto explains to Athena's daughter that she does not actually know what Hades wants with Percy, and is just following his orders. Furthermore, she appeals to Annabeth's Hubris, arguing that Percy will be a hindrance to the quest, and offers to help Annabeth if she betrays Percy and lets Alecto take him to Hades. Annabeth is tempted, but refuses the offer and attempts to flee with her companions. At that, Alecto drops her "Mrs. Dodds" disguise, and she and Tisiphone attack. Annabeth kills Tisiphone, and the trio escape while Alecto is distracted.

Alecto catches up with them in front of Aunty Em's Gnome Emporium. They prepare for a fight, only for the owner of the property, Medusa, to interrupt and offer the children sanctuary in her home. Unwilling to give up, Alecto lurks on the front yard, waiting to attack again once they leave the house. After several hours, the kids kill Medusa, and Percy uses the Gorgon's head to petrify Alecto, killing the Fury for a second time.

"The Prophecy Comes True"[]

After defeating Ares, Percy hears his mother's voice calling to him and spots the lights going on in the Montauk cabin. Inside, Percy finds a radio playing a news report on the war between Zeus and Poseidon before Alecto, having once again reformed, appears to him in the form of Mrs. Dodds, commenting on how bold it is of Poseidon to use earthquakes to clear the skies. Percy realizes that all along Alecto has been after the Helm of Darkness for Hades. Percy returns the Helm to Alecto, living up to his end of the deal with Hades and asking Alecto to tell Hades that Percy expects him to please do the same. Impressed, Alecto wishes Percy luck on Olympus, suggesting that perhaps there will still be a world for Sally Jackson to return to, before she departs for the Underworld with the Helm.

Appearance[]

In her human disguise of "Mrs. Dodds", Alecto appears as a stern and severe woman with gray hair in a neat bun. She wears all black with a blood-red scarf. In her true Fury form, she has a bird-like body with red feathers framing her face and dark brown feathers over the rest of her body. She has taloned feet and enormous bat-like wings.

Personality[]

Alecto is stern, no-nonsense, and sadistic, both as a math teacher and as a lieutenant of Hades. She takes her mission very seriously and does not question her master's orders. The only thing she is known to be afraid of is Medusa.

Abilities and Tools[]

  • Flight: Like her sisters, Alecto can fly with her bat-like wings.
  • Immortality: Like all monsters, Alecto does not age, and while she can be killed, her body will re-form from dust and she will return to the world. As one of Hades's most important assets, it is likely the god of the dead sped up her regeneration process so she could continue her pursuit of Percy Jackson.
  • Telepathy: Alecto "speaks" in Percy's mind when confronting him at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Relationships[]

Hades[]

Hades is Alecto's lord and master, and she is one of his most loyal minions. She trusts him completely, to the point that she did not even ask him why he wants Percy Jackson.

Medusa[]

Medusa is one of the few beings Alecto is known to fear, to the point that she ducks behind her wings when she sees the Gorgon approach.

Annabeth Chase[]

Alecto first encountered Annabeth Chase when the girl was seven years old and traveling with Luke Castellan and Thalia Grace. She took sadistic pride in how much she frightened the child. Five years later, when meeting Annabeth again, she calls her "the pride of Athena's offspring" and "the most formidable demigod child alive". It is unclear if Alecto genuinely believes this or if she was just appealing to Annabeth's hubris so she would surrender Percy.

Percy Jackson[]

Percy was Alecto's target on multiple occasions due to the belief that he had stolen Hades' Helm of Darkness. However, Percy was able to kill her twice and evade Alecto. Percy later realized the truth and returned the Helm of Darkness to Alecto along with a message for Hades. Percy appeared to earn Alecto's respect in the process as she seemed to be genuinely impressed with the demigod and wished him luck on Olympus, suggesting that there would be a world for Sally Jackson to return to after all.
