Annabeth Chase is one of two secondary protagonists of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV series. She is the Greek demigod daughter of Athena.
History[]
Annabeth Chase is the daughter of the goddess Athena and a mortal man, her father. Children of Athena are born from a thought in her mind and then given to a partner she feels connected to. As a baby, Annabeth was sent by her mother as a gift for her father. For a while, she was treated like a gift. Her father cared for her and loved her. However, he eventually met a woman, who would become his future wife, and have theirtheir own kids. Her step mother considered her to be a problem, not a gift. Eventually, Annabeth left home when she was seven years old.[1]
One day, Annabeth was hiding in an alley and was found by two half-bloods, Luke and Thalia. When Luke and Thalia found Annabeth, Luke cared for her right away. But Thalia made her earn it.[1] The two were worried about taking her in and expose her to the monsters. However, they saw Annabeth fight and they eventually became a family ever since. When the three first arrived at Camp Half-Blood, they were being chased by Agents of Hades; the Furies. To buy her friends some time, Thalia turned back to fight. Grover, her satyr protector tried to stop her, but she wouldn’t listen. So, at the last moment, Zeus; her father, intervened to save her life and changed her form to a magical tree, which Annabeth describes as a hero's fate.
At some point, Grover also becomes Annabeth's satyr protector. As the strongest warrior in camp, Annabeth thinks the only way left to prove herself was to go on a quest. Chiron's been promising her for years that one day, a demigod would arrive who was fated to go on a quest that even Chiron couldn't prevent. And when that happened, she could join it. Every new arrival, Annabeth watches, looking for a sign they're the one. However, she gives up after a day or two.[2][3]
Percy Jackson and the Olympians (TV series)[]
Season One[]
I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher[]
As Percy Jackson slowly wakes after fighting the Minotaur, Chiron- in his true form- Annabeth, and a group of other campers surround him. At some point, Annabeth says, “he must be the one,” referring to the demigod who was fated to go on a quest even Chiron couldn't prevent.
I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom[]
Annabeth's shadowy silhouette is seen, in the infirmary, by an unconscious Percy Jackson who wakes up from his rest, still healing from his fight with the Minotaur. When questioned by the latter of his whereabouts, her only response was “you drool when you sleep.”
Later in the episode, it was revealed that she had been stalking Percy ever since he arrived during their conversation in the bathroom. This was after Clarisse La Rue and her equally mean-spirited siblings from Cabin #5, attempted to dunk the blond curly-haired demigod's head in toilet water; which caused him to unintentionally attack the bullies out of defense. As Percy examinedー still dumbfounded by what happenedー his surroundings, he notices Annabeth standing in the entry and recognizes her as the same mysterious girl from the night in the infirmary, marking their first official meeting. When asked why she was observing him, Annabeth simply says she has been "waiting for something like this to happen", so she'd know if he could help her team win Capture the Flag.
During the training for Capture the Flag, Annabeth watches over other demigods as they trained, most likely training them. Then she sees Percy Jackson walking with Luke Castellan, and her expression changes slightly, as if she is examining him. During this scene, Luke is also talking about Annabeth to Percy: Luke tells Percy that Annabeth is the head counselor of the Athena cabin, and that she has led their team to three straight wins in the previous Capture the Flag games. Percy then mentions his conversation with her in the bathroom. Luke tells him that Annabeth sees the world differently, and that she is always six steps ahead of everyone else.
Capture the Flag has begun. Annabeth Chase walks over to Luke and checks in to see if it's clear what his job is. Before Luke goes on, she asks him, "Today feel like a winning kinda day to you?"
Luke gives his company the signal to move, but as Percy is about to follow him, Annabeth tells him he is with her. Annabeth and Percy walk together to the position where she wants him. While on their way, Percy tells Annabeth about how he knows that she is better at this than he is (to which she responds with a nod), but that he needs everything to go well as he is planning to win his father's attention today. Annabeth then stops walking as they have reached the destination. She notices Percy's armor strap needed to be adjusted, and fixes it for him. She then says, "You still don't get where you fit into all this, do you?" Before Percy has the chance to respond, the signal that the game has started goes off. Annabeth says, "game on,” and puts on her Yankees Cap and disappears. Percy is confused, and Annabeth takes it off again to tell him that it was a gift from her mother. She also tells him to stop worrying and that he will do great, and then she turns invisible again.
Clarrise chased Percy to the lake, where Percy snapped her spear and defeated her goons. Clarrise grabbed Percy by his armor, but blues rushed out of the forest, holding the red flag. Clarrise shoved Percy and stormed away. Annabeth's voice spoke from nothingness. She then appeared by removing her baseball cap. Annabeth confirmed Percy's suspicions by saying she was there the whole time but didn't help Percy. Annabeth then apologized to Percy and pushed him into the lake. Immediately, Percy's cuts and scrapes began to heal. A glowing trident floated above his head. Percy looked at it, as did everybody else.
We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium[]
Chiron addressed the head counselors on the quest details at the choosing ceremony. He said Percy would have to go to the Underworld in Los Angeles to confront Hades and retrieve the master bolt. Chiron told Percy he could choose two to join him on the quest. Percy immediately chose Annabeth because he thought she would ensure the quest succeeded and Grover because Percy trusted him.
The three questers gather at the border of the camp, where Annabeth shares a moment with the tree at the top of the hill. Grover explains to Percy that the tree is actually Thalia, who was transformed into that form by Zeus after she, Luke, and Annabeth were attacked by Alectoand Hades' forces. After Annabeth and Percy bicker about the quest and who's in charge, the three of them take a taxi around New York and board a bus as Grover explains a bit more about the world. Percy is annoyed at the circumstances, and she is annoyed at him. Grover reasons that Zeus himself could take a shot at Percy; and with the sky as Zeus's domain, traveling by airplane was out of the question. When the bus stops, she refuses to let him or Grover off, saying she will buy food herself, Percy tries to vote on the decision, but Grover won't take sides. Annabeth leaves for the shop, where she stares at the sweet aisle, despite insisting otherwise, she starts to grab as many as she can. As she pays, she notices a woman in a leather jacket nearby. Annabeth returns to the bus, noticing Alecto - in the form of Mrs. Dodds - reading a newspaper. Putting on her invisible cap, she talks to Alecto, who taunts her over their past together. She offers to lure Percy away to be given to Hades whilst Annabeth can continue on the quest without his annoyance. Annabeth seems to consider this, but returns to Percy and Grover to warn them. Alecto transforms into her Fury form, and begins to advance, so she pulls the alarm, causing an evacuation. Another fury bursts through the window to attack Percy, but Annabeth kills her with her dagger. The three of them then escape out of the window.
The three questers walk along a Satyr Path together, where Percy wants to find a phone to call camp as he believes they cannot complete it; Annabeth disagrees, insisting they have not failed. Grover attempts to change the topic by talking about his Uncle Ferdinand, who used the same path for his own quest. Percy and Annabeth ignore him, as she accuses him of being afraid of something he is keeping from them and he tells her to call her mom for help, realizing that they haven't talked for a while. After Annabeth tries to pull Grover in, and they bicker about who he will side with, she reveals he was the previously unnamed Satyr who was supposed to protect Thalia. However, Grover suddenly smells food and leads the other two along the path to 'Aunty Em's Emporium'.
As they enter, they quickly realize that it has to be the place of someone mythical, with Annabeth soon theorizing it to be Medusa due to the many stone statues they come across. Alecto suddenly arrives, taunting them and telling Annabeth she should've taken the deal, to the others confusion. Before anything can happen, a woman arrives and Alecto hides her face. The woman introduces herself as Medusa, and invites the three questers inside, claiming no intention to harm them and invites them in for lunch. As they enter, Medusa assures Annabeth she does not hate her just because of who her mother is, asserting 'I am a victim' upon the suggestion of monsters. As they sit at the table, Medusa tells them how she devoted her life to Athena and the Goddess of Wisdom only noticed her after starting a relationship with Poseidon, turning her into a Gorgon after he left her. Annabeth retorts that her mother is just but Medusa casts doubt on her beliefs. Medusa goes to the kitchen and Percy follows and once they are alone, Annabeth tells Grover they need to run, hiding in the basement.
Percy meets back up with them and a fire starts to burn and the three see countless of Medusa's victims as she makes her way down stars. The three run and fight over their next plan of action. Grover puts on the winged shoes and inadvertently triggers them before he is ready. Percy and Annabeth scatter and hide. As Medusa taunts Percy, Grover flies down and Annabeth puts her hat on Medusa and Percy beheads the gorgon. Percy and her head upstairs and back outside together to where Alecto is waiting. The fury attacks him just before she turns to stone and falls falls apart upon hitting the ground.
Back in the basement the demigods find Grover in front of his Uncle's remains, the only one without fear on his face, and they discuss what to do with Medusa's head. Percy suggests they bury it in Annabeth's hat but she gets defensive and she and Percy argue about their secrets. Grover repeals that the hat is the only thing Annabeth got from her mother and that Percy is acting the way he is because he is trying to chose between saving the only person who has ever cared for him and the world. Percy then reveals the oracle said a friend would betray him and he will fail to save 'what matters most', choosing Annabeth as he thought they would never be friends and Grover because he would never betray him. They find an address book and Percy mails the head to Olympus, despite the warnings of his companions.
I Plunge to My Death[]
After Percy then wakes up from a nightmare, he talks with Annabeth about her relationships with Thalia and Luke, noting that she wants him to prove himself, similar to how Annabeth had to prove herself to Thalia. He is also frustrated about how their godly parents only contact them if they need something from their children. Annabeth says humans are similar and talks about how life with her father was good until he married her stepmother and had twin sons. After that, they made her feel like a burden and she left when she was seven. The two then wake a frustrated and hungry Grover.
The next morning, as they eat breakfast, Percy questions what they are looking for, but Grover says they will sort that hurdle when they get there. Percy also asks about the fact they will fail their quest, noting that the two of them are purposefully ignoring it. They spot several centaurs outside, the number of which has dwindled due to humans. Grover explains Pan and the satyr's quest to find him, which none have ever returned from. Annabeth asserts that the quest won't fail, only a part of it, and fate works in mysterious ways. A security guard comes to them and asks to see their tickets. They show them and the guards takes them to their room, which has been destroyed and the window destroyed, a woman with a puppy claims to have heard children's voices. The three press their innocence, but when Annabeth asks if they will be arrested, the three are kept under watch in the dining car. As they suspect someone is looking for the Master Bolt, the woman with a puppy comes over to comfort them. Not long after, Grover notices she has glass on her clothes and they realize she is Echidna, the mother of monsters. She explains how she views demigods as monsters and her baby chimera attacks them, as training for a hunt. It stings Percy and Annabeth stabs it with her knife. They run, chased by security and the chimera, although the passengers only see a tiny dog. When the train stops in St. Louis, they escape, although most of the train is destroyed.
Once they are in the city, Annabeth leads them to the Gateway Arch, a temple to her mother, and promises safety. As they look around, Grover suggests they look for a way to escape Echidna and walks off; upset by a displayed animal skull. Percy and Annabeth talk about their parents, where Percy imitates Athena, causing her to laugh, and admits she was right about the sanctuary. Annabeth apologizes and says that fate is real, as the train stopped in St Louis, before suggesting that Percy pray to his father. Percy refuses and just as he says Annabeth has been there for him more then his father, Percy becomes weak from the chimera’s poison. Annabeth and Grover take him to the fountain outside and douse him in water to no effect and nearby tourists confusion. They see Echidna coming, deciding to head to the top of the Arch to pray to Athena, however as they do Echidna telepathically tells Annabeth Athena allowed her inside as punishment for mailing Medusa's head to Olympus. When they reach the elevator, her companions notice Echidna and the chimaera are inside. As they go to the top, Percy and Grover question Annabeth why monsters are inside the arch. Percy tries to protest that it was he who mailed the head, but Annabeth says her mother does not care. When they reach the top, they see that it is full of tourists. Annabeth pulls the fire alarm and tells Percy and Grover to hide among the crowd and volunteers to hold off their attackers. As Percy hands Annabeth his sword, he tricks her into switching places and locks the door, ignoring their pleas for him to escape.
A God Buys Us Cheeseburgers[]
After an explosion at the Gateway Arch, Annabeth notices the Fates knitting, then cutting a blue thread, as Grover warns her that the police are looking for them and they leave. The two search for Percy, eventually arriving at the waterway where they meet up with Percy. Annabeth hugs him and Percy says his father will meet them in Santa Monica. However, Grover informs them that the authorities have blamed them for the incident on the train and the explosion at the arch. As they would be arrested if they go on public transportation, the three walk. As they walk, Percy speculates who could have stolen the Master Bolt on Hades' behalf, realizing he is the last one to realize there is a second traitor. He also understands he needs to take this more seriously when they hear a motorcycle and hide behind a barricade. Annabeth starts acting weirdly, which Percy mistakenly believes to be about their hug, but she reveals that the fates cutting the string means one is going to die soon. However the biker addresses them and they reveal their position, he tells them they're running late. As the man talks, she realizes he is Ares, the deity of war and Clarisse's father. Ares offers them help if he meets them at a diner down the road.
They find Ares at the diner, starting fights on Twitter, where he reveals he knows that their quest will fail. He also shows them a video of Gabe being interviewed, where he cries over his destroyed car and blames Percy for Sally Jackson's disappearance. Ares explains that Zeus will go to war with Poseidon if the bolt is not returned and happily offers to help them get to Santa Monica without being arrested, which Annabeth finds suspicious. Ares states he believes that a war will happen even if the bolt is returned, as that's what his family are like, but wishes to help them get the bolt as ordered. In return, Ares requests they find his shield and an amusement park down the road. After Annabeth offends the god, Percy agrees to his terms. Ares requests Grover stays behind and, despite his companion’s protests, Grover agrees and walks them to the door. Percy and Annabeth promise to come back before heading out and Grover returns to the booth.
Percy and her arrive at the abandoned waterpark, where Percy learns that Annabeth has never seen a movie, so he offers to take her to one after the quest. As Percy steps through the toll booth, Annabeth notices a trap made of Celestial Bronze, explaining its properties. As she tries to figure out how to save him, she becomes distracted by the machines ingenuity, and also explains that the park was likely built by Hephaestus. Eventually, she instructs Percy just to step through, asserting that whoever built the park doesn't want to kill Demigods, only dissuade them from entering. Percy and Annabeth wander around the park, discussing where to go. They realize that Ares likely met Aphrodite, Hephaestus' wife, in the park, which is how he lost his shield. Suddenly, the lights for 'Tunnel Ride O Love' turn on, and they tentatively enter.
As they are riding on the boat and talking, 'What is love' suddenly starts playing, which Percy recognizes from the orthodontists. They realize that the animated people on the walls are telling the story of Hephaestus, who was rejected by his mother Hera who threw him off a cliff, and then rejected by his wife Aphrodite who unabashedly cheats with Ares. Percy darkly states that this is what the Gods are like to each other, and that Sally likely told him these stories to warn him and keep him away from their lifestyle. Suddenly the ride speeds up, and they rocket through tunnels before passing by a gold statue holding the shield. The two of them dive off, with Percy using his water powers to save Annabeth. Percy tells the myth of the gold chair; Hephaestus gave it as a gift to Hera, but it entrapped her and nobody, even the Gods, could free her. Eventually, they offered Aphrodite as his bride, and Hephaestus let her go, meaning one of them has to be turned to gold to get the shield. Annabeth instantly offers herself, to Percy's protests, after arguing Percy points out he picked her as she would sacrifice him if the quest required it and that she would likely succeed more. She promises to free him after getting the bolt from Hades. Percy sits, and the chair turns him into gold, as Annabeth tearfully begs him to just stand up. Ignoring the shield, Annabeth desperately attempts to free Percy but is unable, when suddenly a figure appears on the balcony above, asking if she needs assistance. She ignores him, but the man plays a few notes and a ladder to safety appears, revealing himself as Hephaestus. Annabeth continues to ignore him, as he talks about how Athena has recently been displeased with her. Annabeth breaks down crying and says that Percy is better then how her mother was, and she doesn't want to continue down Athena's path. This emotionally moves Hephaestus, who was only intending on trapping Ares, and frees Percy. He tells the two of them that 'some of us don't like being that way either' and promises to put in a good word with Athena, before vanishing.
The two of them, exhausted, return to the diner and give Ares his shield back. He takes them to a large white lorry belonging to 'Kindness International' and tells them it will arrive at the Lotus Hotel and Casino in Vegas within a few hours, where they can get help from Hermes. He tells Percy not to worry, as Poseidon has plenty of children he stopped caring about, but Percy stands up, angrily telling Ares they are not going to fail and that he doesn't know who Percy truly is. Grover interjects before Percy goes too far, and thanks Ares for the 'emotional abuse and cheeseburgers' before dragging his friend inside the lorry. Percy and Annabeth wonder if Ares was telling the truth about the lorries' destination, before Grover says that Ares was lying, and that he now knows who stole the Master Bolt.
We Take a Zebra to Vegas[]
As Kindness International goes towards Las Vegas, Annabeth and Grover setting up an Iris Message to camp. As they work, Grover theorizes that Clarisse La Rue stole the Master Bolt and Ares is covering for her. They call camp and are met by Luke Castellan. He tells the three that things at camp are becoming tense and campers are choosing between Zeus and Poseidon. Before Percy can mention they are meeting with his dad, Annabeth ends the call and reveals that Luke hates his father, blaming him for what happened to his mother. However, she also says Hermes will do anything to get into his son’s good graces. They then discuss that they have five days to retrieve the Master Bolt and return it before the deadline. Grover reveals he has been talking to the animals and has agreed to help them escape. Grover gives them Satyr's Sanctuary and lets the animals loose in the middle of the street and the three slip away in the chaos. They spot the Lotus Hotel and Casino and head to it.
Upon arriving in the Lotus, Annabeth warns them not to eat or drink anything as they could become trapped in the hotel for decades or centuries without realizing it. They search the floor for Hermes and Annabeth suggests they split up. However Percy is against it as he is the only one who has never met Hermes. Annabeth goes with him while Grover goes on his own. As Percy and her walk, he tells her more about his dream, and Annabeth has trouble theorizing why Clarisse would work with Hades. The two find Hermes and ask for his help. The god rejects helping them get to the Underworld until they mention Luke and Hermes takes them to talk privately. Hermes says he was warned to stay away from Luke as his presence will only make things worse and still refuses to help. He shows Percy a memory of him being dropped off at boarding school and Annabeth leaves before the god can show her a memory. As Percy gets up to leave, Hermes reveals Poseidon told him to stay away from Luke and describes that being forced to do nothing to stop his children from suffering has made him feel helpless, a feat not easily placed on a god. Hermes says they are low on time as Percy realizes they have been in the Lotus for days, with the deadline being hours away, and that they pump the lotus flowers into the air. Annabeth reveals she stole Hermes's keys and they struggle to remember their third companion. Upon seeing Agustus, they remember Grover and chase after the older satyr. They chase after Augustus and Percy tackles him to the floor, demanding to know where Grover is.
They find Grover playing a virtual reality game and he gets annoyed when they pull off his headset. He does not remember Percy and Annabeth, but eagerly joins them when they mention he is part of their quest. In the garage, Grover- still not remembering the demigods- reveals he was searching for Pan and actually felt the nature god's presence. They find Hermes's car, a taxi, with a note saying they only have to get the cab on the road to get where they want to go. After deciding who will drive, Percy takes the wheel. After hitting support beams, scraping the side against the wall, and almost getting hit by a truck, they make it to the streets and are teleported to Santa Monica Beach. After getting over the shock, the three exit the cab and Grover remembers Percy and Annabeth. As Grover questions why he forgot more than the demigods, Annabeth says it is because he was alone while they had each other. Percy goes into the Pacific Ocean and prepares to meet his father. However, they learn they have missed the deadline and, after Percy refuses to stop searching for the bolt, is given four pearls so that he, his companions, and his mother can escape the Underworld.
We Find Out the Truth, Sort Of[]
After learning there is an entrance to the Underworld at Crusty's Water Bed Palace, they devise a plan to distract Procrustes. Percy distracts him half-brother and the daughter of Athena traps Procrustes in his own bed and go to his office to enter the Underworld. In the Underworld,
Percy, Annabeth and Grover get their first view of the Underworld and spot Charon taking new arrivals across the River Styx, allowing Annabeth to pinpoint the main gate to the Underworld. The three push their way through the line, but are stopped by Charon who recognizes that they're not dead and that they didn't pay to cross. Ignoring Percy's offer of golden drachmas, Charon summons Cerberus using a dog whistle who chases them and swallows Grover. However, Annabeth manages to climb onto the three-headed dog's side and calms him down by petting Cerberus. Cerberus falls asleep, allowing Grover to crawl out of his mouth. While Annabeth keeps Cerberus asleep, Grover flies Percy up the wall using his Winged Shoes. Cerberus wakes up when Annabeth slips, but she manages to distract him with a red rubber ball from Crusty's and jumps onto the wall when Cerberus attempts to follow her throw over it. After Percy and Grover pull her up, Annabeth throws the ball into the River Styx and the trio watch Cerberus chase after it. Annabeth admits that she remembers the tricks from when her father had a dog when Annabeth was little. Percy and Annabeth spot Hades' Palace in the distance, but Grover lost his pearl when Cerberus swallowed him.
An apologetic Grover insists upon being the one to stay behind since they only have enough pearls for the three of them now, but Percy refuses to leave his friend behind and gives him one of the remaining pearls. Percy reveals that once they get back the Master Bolt and stop the war, he intends to stay behind while Annabeth and Grover leave with his mom. Encountering spirits, Annabeth realizes that they're crossing the Fields of Asphodel and discovers that the souls are literally rooted in place, bound by regret about the choices that they made or didn't make in life. Hearing Cerberus nearby, the three attempt to flee, only to have Annabeth get rooted to the ground like the spirits. Grover realizes that some kind of regret is trapping Annabeth, but she refuses to reveal what it is. Annabeth tells her friends to go while she distracts the dog to buy them some time. Annabeth trusts that the pearls that Poseidon gave them will work and that Percy and Grover can finish their quest. Reluctantly, they leave Annabeth behind and watch from a distance as Annabeth escapes from the Underworld using the pearl before Cerberus can reach her.
After crushing the pearl, she finds herself on a beach and waits for Percy and Grover to leave the Underworld. When they do, Annabeth wakes them up and Ares walks towards them.
The Prophecy Comes True[]
Annabeth watches as Percy challenges Ares to single combat, with the first to draw blood wins and the war god accepts. Percy mocks Ares by calling Kronos the ringmaster of the plot and saying he saw him in his dreams. Ares says gods do not dream and charges at him. Percy charges at Ares but he is quickly disarmed. Percy summons a wave and knocks Ares to the ground. As Ares crawls to his sword, Percy slashes the god's thigh. Annabeth and Grover go over to Percy as Ares mockingly congratulates the son of Poseidon and declare that he made an enemy of life before vanishing. They spot the Helm of Darkness and Annabeth picks it up. Percy notices the cabin he and his mother were staying at the night of the Minotaur attack and leads his companions towards it. Once inside, Percy hears the radio talking about ionic disturbances and calls for his mother, but the trio is greeted by Alecto. Percy realizes that Alecto was assigned to retrieve the helm and hands it over, telling her to have Hades return his mother. Alecto takes the helm and wishes him luck on Olympus. Annabeth and Grover try and fail to take Percy out of confronting Zeus, but he is adamant on returning it personally. Annabeth says Zeus would never let him leave alive, but Percy still insists he must try at the very least and Annabeth gives him her necklace.
At camp, the others congratulate Percy and Annabeth hugs him. They notice Clarisse in the crowd, but she urges Percy to do nothing for the moment. Percy speaks with Annabeth and Luke about keeping mum on Clarisse as it could start a riot. Luke urges Percy to tell Chiron privately. That night, during the celebrations, Percy and Luke speak in Camp Half-Blood Forest about the prophecy not being fulfilled and she follows in secret with her hat. She is surprised to learn that the son of Hermes is the Lightning Thief. She listens as Luke expresses his willingness to usher in another Golden Age. Luke asks Percy join him and the son of Poseidon rejects his offer. A fight breaks out, while Percy has the upper hand at first, Luke quickly disarms Percy and prepares to kill the son of Poseidon. However, Annabeth disarms Luke and reveals herself. She says she heard everything as Luke looks at her with a pained expression before vanishing.
One the last day of camp, Percy finds her by Thalia's Pine Tree and she reveals she is going to meet back up with her father and travel with him. Soon Grover arrives to reveal he got his Searcher's License. Grover reveals the Council of Cloven Elders thinks Pan is nomadic and that it is a right time and place thing to find him, but Grover thinks he should search the seas. Percy suggests they make a pact to meet up at camp next summer and the others agree.
Appearance[]
Annabeth is a 12-year-old African-American girl. She has dark skin and intelligent-looking brown eyes with curly black hair styled in box braids and thick eyebrows usually worn in a serious/determined expression. She has a slim-average figure and is shorter than her friends Percy Jackson and Grover Underwood.
Personality[]
At first glance, Annabeth appears to be cold, calculating, and blunt. As a daughter of Athena, Annabeth is remarkably perceptive and analytical. According to Luke, she is always "six steps ahead" (the number six could be a reference to her cabin number) of her allies and enemies, and would frequently follow new campers around so she can determine if they are the right demigod to follow for a quest.
While she normally gives up on following new demigods after a few days, she develops an interest in Percy, correctly assuming he is the son of Poseidon. Because she spent five years at Camp Half-Blood, Annabeth has not experienced things most kids her age do, such as movies and theme parks. This leaves her with little understanding of the modern world. For example, Annabeth has never been to see a movie which is shown through her saying it, and her not understanding Percy’s reference to Wizard of Oz when he says we’re not in Kansas anymore. She’s also never heard of Disney World and she’s never really gotten the opportunity to live like a normal kid. Throughout season one, Annabeth becomes more friendly towards Percy, and starts to connect more with her human side. She learns through Percy that the gods aren’t always what she was raised to believe they are. And by the end of the season, she is returning home to spend more time with her family, especially her father. After all of the years that she has spent at Camp Half-Blood, learning how to be the best warrior or a great soldier, she gets to leave camp and learn how to just be a kid.
Abilities and Tools[]
- ADHD: Annabeth's supernatural alertness and keen senses that keep her ready for, and alive, in battle.
- Dyslexia: Annabeth's brain is "hard-wired" for divine Ancient Greek instead of mortal languages.
- Fighting Skills: As the leader of the Athena's Cabin, Annabeth is a highly proficient combatant. She trained during her long stay at Camp Half-Blood. Though she is more capable with weapons, her hand-to-hand combat skills are considerable.
- Weapon Proficiency: She can instinctively know how to use any weapon.
- Knifemanship: Unlike most demigods who use mid-range weapons, Annabeth is shown to prefer and fight better with a knife rather than with a sword. The daughter of Athena is capable of fighting off adversaries quite easily with a knife.
- Strategic Skills: Like her mother, Annabeth is a master tactician herself. Her analytical skills are extremely sharp, which helps her to try to outsmart her opponents through creative plans. She has continuously proven to be able to formulate effective pre and mid-battle strategies.
- Architecture: Annabeth often studies ancient buildings and designs her own works, such as knowing obscure facts about the Gateway Arch.

When Percy chose her for the quest, he claimed that it was because she would ensure the quest would succeed no matter what. He later admitted that he chose her to avoid the Oracle's warning about a friend betraying him because he couldn't see them as friends. As the quest went on and they got to know each other better, they started to become friends. Annabeth later hugs him after he is revealed to be alive after escaping the Chimera and Echidna. She refuses to leave Percy behind after he is trapped by Hephaestus's chair, even as the Blacksmith God tells her to leave him. By the time they contact Luke, he described their friendship as "an old married couple."

Thalia Grace[]
When Annabeth first came across Thalia and Luke, Luke cared for her immediately, but Thalia made her earn it. They were on the road for a while, and they then met Grover. Thalia sacrificed herself at the top of what is know as Half-Blood Hill to save Annabeth, Luke, and Grover. Annabeth frequently visits her tree, and she misses Thalia a lot.
Athena[]
Athena is Annabeth's godly mother. Like all demigod children of Athena, Annabeth was conceived in Athena's brain before being delivered to her mortal father's doorstep. Athena also gifted Annabeth an invisibility Yankees cap. Annabeth has great respect for her mother, defending her actions from Percy and Medusa.
Once Annabeth allows Percy to ship Medusa's Head to Mount Olympus, an insulted Athena revokes sanctuary from the Gateway Arch. It is also implied Athena sent Echidna and the Chimera on Annabeth and her friends in retaliation. This and the time she spent with Percy causes Annabeth to realize Athena isn't perfect. During her talk with Hephaestus, Annabeth says that the Olympian's cold ideas of family are wrong and that she won't be like them anymore.
Etymology[]
- Annabeth is an anagram of "Athena" with a few extra letters, N and B, added. Annabeth is a variant of the Hebrew name, Anna, and the name means "God has favored me." The third syllable of her name, Beth, is a common shortened form of another Hebrew name, Elizabeth, which means "my God is an oath" or perhaps "my God is abundance." Beth can also be a nickname for Bethany, a female name first used as the name of a town in the Christian Bible, which is believed to mean "house of figs."
- Chase is a Middle English surname, the occupational name for a hunter. In Middle English, the word "chase" means "hunt."
