Season One[]

A God Buys Us Cheeseburgers[]

Days before the Summer Solstice deadline, Ares approached Percy JacksonGrover Underwood, and Annabeth Chase on his motorcycle as they were hiding on a street. He tells the three he can help them and tells them to come to a diner down the road.

They find Ares at the diner, starting fights on Twitter, where he reveals he knows that their quest will fail. He also shows them a video of Gabe being interviewed, where he cries over his destroyed car and blames Percy for Sally Jackson's disappearance. Ares explains that Zeus will go to war with Poseidon if the bolt is not returned and happily offers to help them get to Santa Monica without being arrested, which Annabeth finds suspicious. Ares states he believes that a war will happen even if the bolt is returned, as that's what his family are like, but wishes to help them get the bolt as ordered. In return, Ares requests they find his shield and an amusement park down the road. After Annabeth offends the god, Percy agrees to his terms. Ares requests Grover stays behind and, despite his companion’s protests, Grover agrees and walks them to the door. Percy and Annabeth promise to come back before heading out and Grover returns to the booth.

As Ares and Grover wait, he is on Twitter while Grover while tries to start a conversation. He gets Ares' attention by mentioning they have met before, at the previous Winter Solstice, and claims to be a fan of Ares, as war is a part of nature, saying he likes the Turbot War, Lobster War, and the 335 Years War. Ares notes that there were hardly any deaths tolled in those conflicts, but Grover clarifies the fact that they, from beginning to end, occurred with no blood spilled was what makes them so admirable, impressing Ares. As the two talk, Ares tells Grover how much he hates children, including his own, as they consistently pray to him asking for things. He rants about the Winter Solstice, and how tiring it was to listen to every demigod give presentations every year. When Grover mentions that it is likely one of the demigods stole the Master Bolt, however Ares dismisses this due to the amount of different races there who could have stolen it. Grover begins to prompt Ares, mentioning how the thief has to be someone smart, bold, sneaky, stealthy, before a frustrated Ares stops him. When he mentions Athena, Grover says that she makes things more complicated so people will believe she is the smartest, to which Ares emphatically agrees. He talks about her pet owl, which she always talks to and is her only friend, but that nobody thinks is weird. Grover mentions that people will stop thinking that now he's found the Lightning Thief, to which Ares becomes hostile, pointing out he knows Percy did not steal the bolt, despite Zeus believing he did.

Once the the demigods return with his shield, Ares gets them transportation in an animal smugglers truck to get to Las Vegas and tells them to find Hermes at the Lotus Hotel and Casino. After giving them a backpack, a fright almost breaks out between Ares and Percy, Grover interjects and the demigods and satyr get on the truck.[1]

We Find Out the Truth, Sort Of[]

When Grover is nearly pulled into Tartarus, they notice something heavy is in the backpack Ares gave them and are shocked to find the Master Bolt. When the boys and Annabeth return to a beach on the surface, the three are greeted by Ares holding a sword.

The Prophecy Comes True[]

Percy challenges Ares to single combat, with the first to draw blood wins and the war god accepts. Percy mocks Ares by calling Kronos the ringmaster of the plot and saying he saw him in his dreams. Ares says gods do not dream and charges at him. Percy charges at Ares but he is quickly disarmed. Percy summons a wave and knocks Ares to the ground. As Ares crawls to his sword, Percy slashes the god's thigh. Annabeth and Grover go over to Percy as Ares mockingly congratulates the son of Poseidon and declare that he made an enemy of life before vanishing. Ares leaves behind the Helm of Darkness and Annabeth picks it up.

Appearance[]

Ares is a huge muscular man which typically wears black jeans, combat boots, a black leather duster, and a black muscle shirt under a bulletproof vest (his shield in disguise). He also has a large hunting knife strapped to his thigh.

Personality[]

Ares loves violence and anarchy, often causing it himself.

Abilities and Tools[]

As a son of Zeus and one of the twelve Olympian gods, Ares is an extremely powerful deity whose power surpass that of minor gods and demigods.

  • Prowess in Battle: As the God of War, Ares is an extremely fierce warrior, as well as a master of both armed and unarmed combat. He fought successfully in the First Gigantomachy, helping Hephaestus and Hercules defeat the mighty Giant Mimas
  • Battle Precognition: Ares seems to have a sixth sense regarding the trajectory of assaults in the heat of combat.
  • Immense Strength: As the God of War, Ares possesses colossal physical strength.
  • Warfare Expertise: As the God of War, Ares is an expert in all areas of warfare.
  • War Manipulation: As the God of War, Ares has the power to manipulate war, strife, combat, and other forms of conflict - all to a highly advanced level. Through this power, he is able to influence all forms of conflict, including mental, physical, spiritual, and conceptual ones, regardless of the area and numbers involved, and he could even control how they progress and draw power both from the conflict alone as well as the dying. Ares could also start conflicts by influencing people or events, raise personal and fanatical armies, control and create weapons of every kind and even grant others extensive abilities of combat (such as Hippolyta's golden girdle). Ares is naturally, extremely skilled in all forms of fighting, weapons and both strategy and tactics as well as statistics of war. Ares has the incredible power to invoke war and chaos within an enormously large radius, ranging from a city to an entire continent. With this power, he has full control of the city or continent that is in war and chaos at the time.
  • Telumkinesis: As the God of War, Ares has a great amount of control over weapons.
  • Odikinesis: Ares has control over feelings and emotions of war (such as hate and rage), and frequently induces them in order to start fights.

Relationships[]

Aphrodite[]

Ares has a long-standing romance with the goddess of love and beauty, despite the fact that she is married to his brother, Hephaestus. She vastly prefers the bold and passionate Ares over the mild-mannered god of the forge.

Athena[]

Ares has a rivalry with his half-sister and fellow war god. He believes she does not actually deserve her title as the goddess of wisdom, arguing that she only seems smart to people who don't actually know her. He also finds her bond with her sacred animal utterly ridiculous.

Clarisse La Rue[]

Ares, by his own admission, hates all children. While he claims to hate his own children "less", he has no interest in interacting with any of his half-blood children, Clarisse included. Clarisse, however, is determined to prove herself worthy to her father. She acts belligerently to get his attention and is very protective of the only gift he ever gave to her, an electric spear.
