Dante Mata with his family's Arma del Alma in the form of a clancha.
An Arma del Alma (Spanish for Soul Weapon) is a powerful weapon. It is typically passed down a family's bloodline.
Paola Santiago series[]
Paola Santiago and the River of Tears[]
When Paola Santiago and Dante Mata are forced to set out to find Emma Lockwood, his grandmother gives him her Arma del Alma in the form of a clancha. He later learns it can turn into a weapon when he is in need of one. When he is being dragged off by a La Mano Panchona, it turns into a yard long black club that revitalizes his strength and allows him to destroy the severed hands.
Later Marisa Martínez trains Pao and Dante with an Arma del Alma that used to belong to Franco. Dante continues to use it in battle until his grandmother forces him to return it upon returning home.
The Cursed Carnival and Other Calamities: New Stories About Mythic Heroes[]
Bruto and the Freaky Flower[]
Dante's grandmother lends him their family's soul weapon when he goes to help Pao save Bruto.
Paola Santiago and the Forest of Nightmares[]
Dante uses his soul weapon to defeat two ghosts attacking the Silver Springs Hospital. He tosses it to Pao, on the suggestion of Naomi, when his friend is attacked by a pack of Cadejo at a rest stop.
Pao is later granted her own arma del alma after helping a ghost find peace.
Paola Santiago and the Sanctuary of Shadows[]
Pao uses her Arma del Alma during a training session with the Niños, and again to defend herself against Poppy.
