Athena is the Greek virgin goddess of wisdom, civilization, mathematics, strategy, defensive warfare, crafts, the arts, skills, intelligence and brilliance.
History[]
Athena was born to Zeus, king of Olympus, and his first wife, the Titaness Metis. A prophecy warned that Metis would bear a daughter, then a son stronger than his father. Fearing this, Zeus turned into Metis into a fly and swallowed her. Within him, Metis became pure intelligence and gave birth to a daughter who grew inside Zeus's mind, teaching her child before fading into a restless voice in his thoughts.
Zeus later suffered an unbearable headache. At his command, Hephaestus split open his skull while the other gods held him down. From the fissure, Athena emerged fully grown, clad in armor and holding a spear, to the astonishment of the Olympians. Some say even Helios halted his chariot in the sky, struck silent with wonder.
Long ago, Medusa was a mortal and a devoted priestess of Athena. She served faithfully, though the goddess never acknowledged her. Then Poseidon, god of the sea, noticed Medusa, declared his love, and gave her the attention she had never received from Athena. Their closeness enraged the goddess. Athena felt humiliated and chose to punish her without mercy, transforming her into a Gorgon, her hair became a nest of living snakes and her gaze a curse that turned all who met it to stone.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians[]
Season One[]
“I Plunge to My Death”[]
After Percy Jackson mails Medusa's Head to Olympus under both his and Annabeth's names, Athena allows the Chimera to go after her daughter as punishment.
Season Two[]
“We Check In to C.C.'s Spa & Resort”[]
An illusion of Athena appears before Annabeth as the demigod faces the sirens, tricking her into thinking she outsmarted them. The fake Athena compliments Annabeth and says she is always watching over her and then reaches out to her so Annabeth will hold her hand, which causes Annabeth to reach for the hand of a Siren. Percy then shows up and makes Annabeth see the truth and they escape.
Abilities[]
- Divine Wisdom: As the Goddess of Wisdom, Athena is extremely wise, intelligent, and knowledgeable, constantly coming up with brilliant ideas.
- Strategic Skill: As the Goddess of Strategy, Athena is an exceptionally skilled tactician with great observation skills and superb capacity for planning for the long term before acting.
- Craftsmanship: As the Goddess of Crafts, Athena is an incredibly skillful craftswoman.
- Prowess in Battle: As the Goddess of Warfare, Athena is a superb warrior and a complete master of both armed and hand-to-hand combat, but frequently uses her wisdom to overcome her opponents instead of sheer force.

Trivia[]
- While Athena debuts in episode 5 of season 2, she appears as an impersonation by one of the sirens, so the real Athena has yet to appear.
