I'm gonna toss you off this chariot.

–Butch to Leo after the new camper mocked his parentage and hobby in The Lost Hero.

Butch Walker[1] is a Greek demigod son of Iris and the Head Counselor of his cabin.

History[]

Butch is a camper at Camp Half-Blood. It is possible that Butch didn't fight in Second Olympian war because he is a son of Iris and there wasn't a cabin for Iris at Camp Half-Blood until the end of The Last Olympian. However, he may have fought with the Hermes' Cabin as that would have been the cabin he would've been assigned to.

The Heroes of Olympus[]

The Lost Hero[]

Iris GN

Iris, his mother.

Butch is seen with Annabeth Chase when they arrive at the Grand Canyon on a chariot looking for Percy Jackson. Once they learn Percy is not there, Butch points out Jason only has one shoe and Annabeth realizes Jason was the clue Hera told her about. Butch then flies Jason Grace, Leo Valdez, and Piper McLean to Camp Half-Blood, using the chariot he borrowed from the Apollo's Cabin .While on the ride Leo makes a sarcastic side comment that Butch's mother is the goddess of rainbows and how manly he is. Butch then threatens to push him off of the chariot. As they arrive back to camp, the chariot is damaged and Butch manages to land it in the lake, much to the irritation of the Apollo cabin. He later appears at the head counselor meeting and is seen sticking colored pencils up the nose of Clovis, who is sleeping, but was reprimanded by Chiron.

The Blood of Olympus[]

Butch is seen in Nico di Angelo's dream. He is seen in the council of war, commenting that if Ella flew away she would be "committing suicide." Butch goes on to state "with those Roman eagles in the air, flying isn't safe. I've already lost two pegasi."

The Chalice of the Gods[]

Butch is mentioned while Percy and Annabeth are talking about going to see Iris. Annabeth mentions that she knows a demigod that can help them talking to Iris, and Percy thinks about Butch but dismisses the thought saying that Butch is at home in Minnesota.

Appearance[]

Butch is a bulky male with a shaved head, has a face like a pile of bricks, and a rainbow tattoo on his biceps (at the time of when The Lost Hero takes place) and is seen wearing a Camp Half-Blood shirt.

Personality[]

Though little is known about him, Butch seems to be very violent towards people like Leo, while traveling to Camp Half-Blood, and Clovis at the counselor meeting. He also seems to be less than tolerant with Leo, who insulted him about being the son of Iris and his skill as an equestrian, implying he could be emotionally sensitive. Perhaps the nature of his mother is a soft spot of his, and he is not usually so irritated. Ironically, his mother, Iris, now has a peaceful, non-violent attitude, and only attacks in self-defense.

Abilities[]

Since Butch doesn't have many appearances in The Lost Hero, his true powers are unknown although he has the ability to travel at very high speeds. He displays this power when the chariot wheel catches fire at the beginning of The Lost Hero. He also is a very skilled equestrian. As a Greek demigod, Butch supposedly has ADHD and/or Dyslexia.

Trivia[]

  • Leo calls him the "rainbow pony dude."
  • His name means "tough kid".
