Zane Obispo Not part of Riordanverse

The following article/section is from the Storm Runner/Shadow Bruja continuity under Rick Riordan Presents and not the Riordanverse canon.

Zane, Zane, Zane, I suppose I will have to kill you all one at a time until I get what I want. And I was so looking forward to the hunt. Oh, well.

–Camazotz taunting Zane in The Shadow Crosser.

Camazotz is the Mayan god of bats and an antagonist in the Storm Runner Trilogy.

History[]

Camazotz lived in the Bat House of Xib'alb'a with his bats. Hero twins, Jun'ajpu' and Xb'alamkej, were placed in the house as part of their test by the lords of the underworld. The two were to spend the entire night there, but they had squeezed themselves into their own blowguns in order to defend themselves from the circling bats. However, when Jun'ajpu' briefly peeked out to see if the sun came up, Camazotz cut his head off and carried it to the ball court. It was used in the next ball game, Xb'alamkej replaced his brother's head with a gourd and won back the real head in the game.[2]

Storm Runner Trilogy[]

The Fire Keeper[]

Camazotz sends a colony of bats to abduct Ren Santiago, once in Texas and again in Cabo San Lucas.

About a day later, he sleeps while watching over the captive godborns, oblivious to their escape until Marco wakes him up by throwing a hammer at him. After Ah-Puch joins him, they explain how the twins will use Hurakan and the god borne to resurrect the Mexica Gods and create a world order with themselves on top. After a fight breaks out, Ah-Puch betrays him and stabs him in the chest before creating a gateway the bat god kills him. As Zane Obispo rushes to the death god’s side, he grabs Ren Santiago and plans to sacrifice her after discovering she has both Mayan and Mexica blood. After Ah-Puch regains his full power and threatens him to release Ren, Zane burns his eyes out with a fire ball and he smells out his opponents as Ah-Puch frees Ren.

The Shadow Crosser[]

As Zane and company travel to SHIHOM, Camazotz and Ixkik' ambush them to get the stone Adrik and Alana possess. When both sides scramble for the stone, he gets it but is distracted when Brooks arrives and loses, wanting her for his forces after realizing she is a nawal. He tries to take her but Zane burns his throat and he leaves, swearing revenge.

Later he is betrayed by Blood Moon, who plans to have Jordan become the king of the sobrenaturals and imprisons him in Tlaltecuhtli. He is later freed in a teenage version of himself by when Zane, Marco, and Adrik combine their energy to heal Hondo, he says something about Ixkik’ before passing out. After Ixkik’ and Jordan are trapped in a time loop, he and Bird are taken prisoner and given to Sipacna.

Appearance[]

Camazotz was at least ten feet tall, he had claws, rubber wings, and a swollen body. His head was humanish but his face had a creepy masklike look, his grayish skin pulled too tight like an overcooked chicken. Zane thought he looked more repulsive then demon runners.
