Charon, also known as The Ferryman, is a daimon and the Spirit of Boundaries and Territories. He is the one who transports dead spirits to the Underworld.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief[]
When Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Grover Underwood enter the Underworld, Charon demands payment. When Grover gives him American dollars to pay for his fair, the paper burst into flames in his hands. He only grants passage when he is paid in drachma. He takes the three down the River Styx and leaves them at the door of Hades' Palace.
Appearance[]
Charon has a ghostly white complexion with a thick face. He wears a black hooded robe.
Personality[]
Charon is a traditionalist, only accepting payment in drachma.
Abilities[]
- Pyrokinesis: Charon is able to generate and control fire. He set cash on fire.
Etymology[]
His name (Charon = χάρων) means: “of keen gaze”, referring either to fierce, flashing, or feverish eyes or to eyes of a bluish-gray color. His name may have been a euphemism for death.
Trivia[]
- Unlike the books whereas he is stylish and witty, in The Lightning Thief movie, he was dressed in a dark robe and was monotone.
- Actor Julian Richings later portrays Procrustes in the TV series in an episode where the TV version of Charon briefly appears.
- He is simply referred to as "ferry man", instead of Charon.
