The Chase Mansion is located in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. The House is located on Commonwealth Avenue, and the back is on public alley 429. As of The Ship of the Dead, the mansion serves as a shelter for homeless youths known as the Chase Space.
History[]
The mansion was owned by Randolph Chase, and he inherited it from his father. His sister Natalie, and brother Frederick lived here in their youth.
After one Thanksgiving, Randolph's siblings and their children never visited the mansion again for eleven years.
The mansion is currently owned by Annabeth Chase. It was left in Randolph's will to both Chase cousins, but Magnus is technically dead, and property laws do not account for einherjar. Magnus tells Alex that Annabeth has enough to deal with, so she doesn't care what he does with the mansion.
Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard[]
The Sword of Summer[]
Magnus sneaks into the family mansion to find answers as to why he is in danger and learns the truth from Randolph. Magnus breaks into the house and gets himself some refreshments and a chocolate from the bridge. Magnus could easily understand why his mother had never liked living there, and why she had become a fan of the great outdoors. According to him, the mansion was dark, oppressive and creepy.
After Ragnarök is prevented by rebinding the Fenris Wolf, Randolph has a brief conversation with Loki here.
The Hammer of Thor[]
Magnus and Alex sneak into the mansion to find information on Mjolnir and know what Randolph is up to. They find a picture of Bridal Veil Falls and theorize that the presumed wedding of Samirah and Thyrm is there.
The Ship of the Dead[]
Magnus and Alex visit the mansion looking for clues. As soon as they enter they see a wolf lying on the carpet. Later they go upstairs into the library and find a book where Randolph had described a plan to defeat Loki. It is revealed that Randolph had left Magnus and Annabeth the mansion in his will.
After Ragnarök is delayed once again and Loki is reimprisoned, Magnus converts the mansion into a homeless shelter called the Chase Space, a shelter for homeless youths, with him and Alex as the owners. Blitzen and Hearthstone served as cooks, tailors, and life advisors for the kids who first arrived on the Fourth of July.
9 from the Nine Worlds[]
This Is Why I Hate Clothes Shopping []
Amir Fadlan decides to donate the gold he received from Stan's Nábrók pants to the Chase Space.
Description[]
The mansion is a massive six-story brownstone with gargoyles on the corners of the roof, stained-glass transom windows, and marble front steps.
Layout[]
First Floor/Ground Floor[]
The first floor contains the entrance foyer and the kitchen.
Second Floor[]
The second floor contains Randolph's study. Magnus describes it as a mausoleum of mahogany furniture, oriental rugs, oil paintings, marble-tiled floors and crystal chandeliers. Along one wall is a lit glass case full of Randolph’s rusty Viking helmets and corroded axe blades. The library smells of lemon polish and leather. In one corner of Randolph’s office sat a big slab of rock like a tombstone, the front chiselled and painted with elaborate red swirly designs. In the center is a crude drawing of a snarling beast – maybe a lion or a wolf. Instead, spread across the desk were pieces of parchment as thin and yellow as onion skin. Faint sketches of a coastline, various points labelled in runes. Sitting on top of them, like a paperweight, was a leather pouch filled with rune stones.
Third Floor[]
The Third floor contains two bedrooms.
Fourth Floor[]
The fourth floor contains two more bedrooms.
Fifth Floor[]
The Uppermost floor. The Fifth floor contains a large library with a small kitchenette with a mini fridge and tea pot.
Roof Deck[]
The roof contains a barbecue grill, planters and lounge chairs overlooking Back Bay.
Trivia[]
- The location of the Leif Erikson statue is not at a place where you could easily view it from the estimated location of the mansion on Public Alley 429.
