Chiron is the activities director at Camp Half-Blood. He is an immortal centaur, son of Kronos and a famed trainer of heroes from Greek mythology, including Jason and Achilles.

Season One[]

I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher[]

When supervising a field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Chiron sees Nancy Bobofit and her friends teasing Percy Jackson and stops them when Mrs. Dodds fails to do so. He tells Percy he is indeed special and gives the boy a sword. After Mrs. Dodds is revealed to be a fury and is killed by Percy, he manipulates the Mist to make the humans forget about Mrs. Dodds and believe Ms. Kane co-chaperoned the field trip while denying Mrs. Dodds ever existed after Percy brings her up.

Chiron sits in on Percy’s meeting with the headmaster and, after Grover Underwood give a false account of his pushing Nancy into the fountain, Percy is expelled. He goes over to Percy as he waits for ride. He tells the boy Yancy Academy was not the right fit for him and that the right place is out there somewhere. Percy takes this as an insult and leaves as soon as his ride comes.

After Percy kills the Minotaur, he tells the campers to give the boy some space and welcomes him to Camp Half-Blood.

I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom[]

A few days later, Chiron goes to the Big House to introduce Percy to the truth of the world. When Dionysus falsely claims to be Percy’s father to trick the boy into getting him alcohol, Chiron informs Percy that the god before him is not his father and that demigods can break rules gods cannot.

As they walk, Chiron explains that Camp Half-Blood is a safe haven and training ground for demigods and upon arriving at the cabins, Chiron also reveals that Percy’s sword will always return to him so long as he does not give it up. Percy asks who his father is. Chiron says he does not know and takes Percy to the Hermes' Cabin, which takes it both Hermes' kids and the unclaimed. Chiron addresses the cabin that they have a new arrival before leaving. As Percy walks over to a bed roll, the other kids whisper about his exploits with the Minotaur. Soon the counselor arrives and introduces himself as Luke Castellan. Meanwhile, Grover goes into the woods to speak with the Council of Cloven Elders. He rushes to the Big House where Dionysus and Chiron are playing poker, informing them that he believes Sally Jackson is alive, however they inform him they have already realized this and do not intend to tell Percy.

After Percy is claimed by Poseidon, Chiron and Dionysus explain to Percy the meaning of being Poseidon's son, and that Zeus believes that Percy has stolen his Master Bolt. They tell Percy he must go on a quest to retrieve the bolt from Hades, to prove his innocence and prevent war, however he refuses angrily stating he is not Poseidon's son but Sally Jackson's, as she actually cares for him. Grover interrupts and, against both Chiron and Dionysus, reveals Sally is alive and likely being held hostage by Hades. Now given incentive, While it annoys Chrion and Dionysus, it gives Percy a reason to go to the Underworld.

We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium[]

After Percy receives his prophecy, Chiron calls an assembly to allow Percy to select his companions for the quest, the son of Poseidon chooses Annabeth Chase and Grover.

The Prophecy Comes True[]

As Percy packs, Chiron speaks with Percy as he prepares to visit his his mother. Chiron states that Luke sees Percy as a potential ally as the son of Poseidon states he will never join Luke.

Appearance[]

Chiron is a centaur. From the waist up, his human half has dark skin and thinning, gray hair, and wears a tweed jacket with a white shirt and red tie. From the waist down, he has the body of a brown stallion. His left back leg has a brace on it due to a war injury he had sustained in the past.

As Mr. Brunner, he goes undercover by hiding his horse half with a wheelchair.

Personality[]

Chiron is a wise, regal, fatherly centaur who has mentored and trained generations of demigods.

Relationships[]

Percy Jackson[]

Chiron suspected there was something special about Percy Jackson early on, and personally took time off from Camp Half-Blood to pose as the boy's teacher. He guides Percy around camp and helps him get acclimated to this new world.

Dionysus[]

Dionysus has been punished by Zeus and must serve as the director of Camp Half-Blood for one hundred years. While Chiron is not happy with some of his divinely-mandated colleague's antics, such as trying to trick Percy Jackson into getting him alcohol, they are on amicable enough terms to play card games together in their free time.

Trivia[]

  • Chiron's actor, Glynn Turman, is an experienced equestrian who runs a summer camp with his wife. While filming Chiron's scenes, the actor rides a horse and wears blue-screen pants so the visual effects team can remove his legs, as well as the horse's upper body, in post-production.[1]
