Culeco Academy of the Arts is a performing arts school in Miami, Florida. Carlos Hernandez describes it as a magnet school for middle schoolers interested in performance. The students include actors, musicians and magicians.[1]
History[]
Seven years before Sal attended, the school was a closed down chicken processing plant. The city decided to turn it into a magnet school for young artists. The school had the public chose the name and they chose Culeco.

Trivia[]
- According to Sal, to get into the school a potential student must have good grades and must either submit a portfolio (for painting and writing) or go through an audition (for theater or music).
- Rick Riordan called this school the coolest school since Hogwarts.[2]
- According to Principal Torres, the school opened five years before Sal started to attend.
- The school mascot is a superhero egg, a 20-foot statue of it is on the roof holding the school flag.
- Students often cosplay at the school, it's the only school that can lay claim to educating alien warriors, video game heroes, and kids in advanced mech suits all under the same roof.[3]
- Culeco is a word with many different meanings, however they all somewhat mean "strange."
