A Death Ceremony is a ritual to put someone in a near death state of seventy two hours to hide them from the gods. However there are many dangerous risks.
Description[]
In order to undergo a Death Ceremony, one must gain permission from Ixtab before having a Death magician oversee the ritual. They put on a death mask and speak to the spirit of the person the mask was made for and speak to them for two minutes, after which the dead blesses them. Their body breaks and heals itself until the individual is just alive.
Risks, limitations, and Side Effects[]
If the person who underwent the ritual does not return to Xib'alb'a when the seventy-two hours are up, they will die permanently. They are also weak after going through the ceremony. While it can mask anyone from a god unless they are right in front of one, death gods can easily find someone who has undergone a Death Ceremony.

Storm Runner Trilogy[]
The Fire Keeper[]
Zane Obispo makes a deal with Ixtab to undergo the ceremony to hide him from the gods while he searched for the missing godborns. Then then go to San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato to meet with Fausto who will perform the ceremony. Zane picks the mask of the Red Queen for the ceremony and speaks with her about how to find the Fire Keeper. Three days later he returns to Xib'alb'a with two minutes to spare, returning to full life.
