Deion is a Roman demigod son of Aurora.
History[]
Deion was born to Aurora, the Roman goddess of the dawn, and an unknown mortal parent. When he was old enough, he was brought to the Wolf House and survived Lupa's training. He made his way south to the San Francisco Bay Area and found Camp Jupiter where Deion joined the Second Cohort.
The Nico di Angelo Adventures[]
The Court of the Dead[]
At dinner, Deion is so startled by the appearance of the cacodemons that he jumps onto a table.
Deion and Yazan are sparring partners during the first training session with the mythics, but Deion gets distracted, resulting in Yazan accidentally hitting him hard. The two then switch partners, facing Will Solace and Nico di Angelo respectively. The two offer Deion and Yazan advice about fear, but before they can start sparring, Savannah collapses from a panic attack.
Deion and Yazan are on guard when Orcus experiences a panic attack in the Caldecott Tunnel and has to be rescued because of how he is unused to the modern world. This and learning how Orcus was caged in his previous life enamors the gryphon to the two legionaries who befriend him and promise to teach Orcus everything that he needs to know. After seeing Nico Shadow Travel, Deion is excited and asks if it's like beaming in Star Trek, but Nico ignores his questions in favor of checking on Orcus.
Deion and Yazan are on guard again when Nico, Will and Hazel leave to investigate the lead that they got from Laverna. Yazan promises not to fall asleep again and the two reveal that the entire Second Cohort spent the night building a shrine for Laverna on Temple Hill that they designed like a holding cell for the goddess. It's Laverna's first real shrine in millennia and the mystery means that she won't be sure if it's safe to take the offerings. When Nico and Will return without Hazel following her supposed execution, their devastated expressions tell the guards everything. Will orders Deion to use the tessera to Iris Message Frank about what happened.
Deion is chosen to be a part of the strike team to rescue Hazel and the captured mythics, forming a strike team with Nico, Will, Frank, Yazan, Lucius Silver, Lavinia Asimov, Orcus, Johan, and Semele. Savannah, Yazan and Deion are chosen because they worked with the Coco Puffs before while Lucius has become Johan's self-appointed bodyguard. The team is each paired up with one of the Coco Puffs to be able to see through the Mist better. Before Nico gets the creatures under control using chocolate, the team attempts to capture them with butterfly nets, Deion chasing Loneliness with a war cry. Nico explains that they're not sure how the Coco Puffs work, causing Deion to suggest that they're aliens, but it seems to be through showing people the truth which Savannah demonstrates with Grief.
When Nico emerges from Pluto's Shrine after talking to Hades, he finds Deion waiting for him who admits that he had heard the end of Nico and Hades' conversation. Deion admits that he hopes he gets to meet his mother, Aurora, goddess of the dawn someday which is weird because Deion is usually a late sleeper. Nico admits that he admires Deion's tendency to say whatever he's thinking, and the boy reveals that someone showed up at camp claiming to know where Hazel is. The woman turns out to be Will's mother Naomi Solace who saw Hazel and the captured mythics in Golden Gate Park. Deion is offended when Naomi asks if Camp Jupiter is like Camp Half-Blood, telling her that they are far superior to the Greek camp. Nico points out that Deion has never even stepped foot in Camp Half-Blood. Frank sends Deion to gather the rest of the strike team.
As Deion is paired up with the Coco Puff Anger, he keeps kicking the van floorboards in frustration on the way to the park. During the Battle of Golden Gate Park, Deion, the other legionaries and Will form a circle around Dolus and Apate to buy Hazel and Nico time to free the two trapped gods from the Chains of Prometheus. After being freed, the two gods go overboard on the Mist, but Will is able to get Frank and Yazan reunited with their Coco Puffs who then help reunite the others.
Following Pirithous' defeat, Hazel spots Yazan, Deion and Johan walking arm in arm laughing about house cats while Lavinia and Lucius dance to Cotton Eye Joe, Frank and Savannah help the injured Arielle walk, and Orcus flies reconnaissance. Will provides everyone with chocolate and the group debates what to do with Pirithous who wants to be punished, but Will, Hazel and Deion agree that enough has been done to him and it would be like killing an injured animal. The debate is interrupted by the arrival of Hecate and Deion has to be shushed by Savannah due to his commenting that Hecate is a goddess that he actually recognizes. Hecate returns Pirithous to his punishment in the Underworld while making him think that it's actually a reward and erases the memories of the mortals who witnessed the battle. Deion is left awe-struct that they got to meet eight gods in one day, causing Savannah to tell Arielle that Deion is such a baby and will grow out of it one day.
Before Nico and Will return to Camp Half-Blood, Yazan, Deion, Arielle and Savannah reveal that they are planning to go on a quest to find the empousa who killed Savannah's family in order to help her get some closure. Nico feels worry for the young demigods going out on a quest, even with Arielle's help. Yazan, Deion and Arielle run off to the augurs on Temple Hill with a teddy bear Deion has ready to sacrifice.
Appearance[]
Deion is a tall black boy with shoulder-length locs that are bleached on the end.
Personality[]
Deion is generally friendly, although he's nervous when the mythics first join Camp Jupiter. However, alongside his friend Yazan, Deion is one of the first to accept the mythics, even letting Orcus ride on his shoulder.
Deion is shown to occasionally get overexcited about things such as meeting eight gods in one day. At one point, he has to be shushed by Savannah due to the inappropriate timing of his excitement. Deion admits that he has a problem with saying whatever he's thinking which Nico admires while Yazan thinks it will get Deion into trouble someday.
