–Mr. D about Percy Jackson, I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom

Dionysus, also known as Mr. D, is the Greek god of grape-harvest, wine, orchards, fertility, madness, parties, religious ecstasy, and theater. He also serves as the camp director of Camp Half-Blood.

History[]

Dionysus was punished by his father Zeus to be the camp director at Camp Half-Blood, and forbade him to consume alcohol. He does not like being camp director and is often annoyed with the campers.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians (TV series)[]

Season One[]

I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom[]

After Percy Jackson wakes up, he rudely greets the boy and falsely claims to be his father to get Percy to bring him alcohol despite his punishment. Chiron arrives and tells Percy Dionysus is lying and takes the boy on a tour of Camp Half-Blood. Later, Grover Underwood tells him and Chiron that he believes Sally Jackson is alive, but they forbid him from telling Percy. After Percy is claimed by Poseidon, he and Chiron urge the boy to find the Master Bolt.

We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium[]

Dionysius attends a Senior Council meeting to have Percy select his quest mates.

The Prophecy Comes True[]

After Percy returns the Master Bolt and reveals Luke Castellan as the true culprit, Dionysus visits the son of Poseidon as he packs and tells everyone leaving for the school year to leave.

Appearance[]

Dionysus has curly black hair and brown eyes with a judgmental disposition.

Personality[]

Mr. D comes across as a grump who doesn't care about anyone or anything. He is frustrated with his punishment from Zeus and is often annoyed with the demigods at camp, but deep down he knows what he's doing and the importance of his job and that of the Gods and their children.

Abilities and Tools[]

As a son of Zeus, Dionysus is an extremely powerful god.

  • Chlorokinesis: Dionysus can grow, control, and summon plants, but he prefers grape and strawberry vines.
  • Madness Manipulation: As the god of madness, Dionysus is able to both induce and cure it.
  • Alcokinesis: As the god of wine, Dionysus can manipulate alcohol. However, in the first series he is not allowed to partake in alcohol, with Zeus stripping him of this ability. If he were to attempt to consume alcohol, it would turn into a non-alcoholic drink such as water.

Relationships[]

Chiron[]

Chiron and Mr. D work together at camp. Although the often disagree and bicker, deep down they understand each other.

Percy Jackson[]

Possibly the most problematic of his campers, Mr. D is often most annoyed with Percy and the two have a complicated relationship.

Trivia[]

  • When it was announced that Jason Mantzoukas was playing Dionysus, he received various calls from his friends' children who were fans of the series, one of which gave him notes on how to portray the character.[1]
