You know, the Christians have a guy who can do this trick in reverse, now that's a god.

–Dionysus after his wine turns to water in Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.

Dionysus, also known as Mr. D, is the Greek god of grape-harvest, wine, orchards, fertility, madness, parties, religious ecstasy, and theater. He also serves as the camp director of Camp Half-Blood, having been placed there by his father Zeus as punishment for chasing after an off-limits nymph.

Percy Jackson (film series)[]

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief[]

As the Summer Solstice looms, he and the others gods await Percy Jackson as the he son of Poseidon returns the Master Bolt. As the deadline passes, Zeus declares war, but Percy and Annabeth Chase arrive seconds later with the bolt in hand. When Percy returns the bolt, he reveals that Luke Castellan was the real thief.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters[]

As he watches campers try and conquer the obstacle tower, he attempts to pour himself a glass of wine only for it to turn into water. After Clarisse La Rue claims victory, he has Percy clean up the mess. When Tyson arrives at camp claiming to be Poseidon’s son, he keeps an eye on the cyclops as Chiron fetches Percy. When the magical border surrounding camp is weakened, Annabeth suggests they go after the Golden Fleece. However Dionysus rejects her idea before later claiming it as his own, tasking Clarisse and Ichneutae with retrieving the fleece.

Later, when the fleece is retrieved, he watches as the daughter of Ares places it on Thalia's Pine Tree.

Appearance[]

Dionysus resembles a balding man with dark hair and beard. He wears a leopard print shirt.

Personality[]

Dionysus desires nothing more than for his punishment to end, caring little for the residence of Camp Half-Blood. He is lazy when it comes to solutions, often passing other's ideas off as his own.

Abilities[]

  • Chlorokinesis: Dionysus can grow, control, and summon plants, but he prefers grape and strawberry vines.
  • Madness Manipulation: As the god of madness, Dionysus is able to both induce and cure it.
  • Alcokinesis: As the god of wine, Dionysus can manipulate alcohol. However, in the first series he is not allowed to partake in alcohol, with Zeus stripping him of this ability. If he were to attempt to consume alcohol, it would turn into a non-alcoholic drink such as water.
