–The Guard to Percy in The Last Olympian. |
The Unnamed Elevator Security Guard sits in the lobby of the Empire State Building. He gives an elevator key to demigods going up to Olympus. While he appears to be mortal, it's unknown if he actually is.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians[]
The Lightning Thief[]
When Percy Jackson arrives at the Empire State Building with Zeus' Master Bolt, the guard is reading a book with a wizard on the front and rebuffs Percy's attempts to get allowed up to Olympus to the point that Percy at first wonders if the guard even knows what he's talking about. Finally, in an act of desperation, Percy shows the guard the Master Bolt in his bag, causing the guard to fumble for his key card and tells Percy to insert it in the security slot.
The Last Olympian[]
He appears again when the Demigod Army tries to go up to Olympus. Again, he says there's no 600th floor, but when Percy says that "forty demigods attract an awful lot of monsters. You really want us hanging out in your lobby?" the security guard hits a buzzer, and the security gates swing open. Later, when Kronos enters the lobby, the guard is gone, possibly having escaped.
The Senior Year Adventures[]
The Chalice of the Gods[]
In order to sneak into Olympus and get Ganymede's Chalice to Ganymede during Zeus' brunch for Rhea, Percy is forced to steal the guard's pass while he's distracted by Grover as Annabeth's Yankees Cap has no effect on the guard. As the man's appearance never seems to change and he's always reading really thick novels, Percy suspects that he might not actually be human. Grover performs in the middle of the Empire State Building lobby, distracting the guard long enough for Percy to steal his security pass and sneak upstairs.
After successfully returning Ganymede's Chalice to the god, Percy drops his stolen key card near the front desk. The guard doesn't try to stop him from leaving, but Percy is pretty sure that the guard narrows his eyes when he sees Percy's demi bag.
Appearance[]
He has pale blue eyes and a bald head. In The Chalice of the Gods, Percy Jackson notes that his appearance never changes.
