Epiales is the demon of nightmares and the child of Nyx.

The Sun and the Star: A Nico di Angelo Adventure

When Nico di Angelo and Will Solace sneak into the Underworld through the Door of Orpheus, they put the demigods in a dream like state to disorient and confuse the boys. When Nico figures out what is going on, they make themself known and tells the son of Hades what their kind does. As Nico goes to attack them with bones, they grab his wrist. When Will- who was asleep- wakes up, they put the demigods back to sleep. Eventually, Will manages to overpower the demon by blasting them with a ray of light. Defeated, Epiales admits that their mother sent them after the demigods and complains that 'Mother' (Nyx) doesn't think that the demon is as strong as they can be, that demigods always have to ruin everything and that no one appreciates what Epiales puts into the world. However, Nico and Will express their appreciate for Epiales' skill, something that has never happened to the demon before. Resigned to their fate, Epiales tells Will to finish them off, but the demigod hesitates since the demon is no longer attacking them. When Epiales rushes Nico and Will, Will finishes them off with a ray of light to the face.

Epiales quickly reforms and joins Nyx, Hypnos and Nemesis in confronting Nico, Will, Bob and Small Bob at the Mansion of Night. When Nyx reveals that she sent Epiales after the demigods, the demon complains that Nyx told them to do it, only to shrink back when Nyx orders them to shut up. Epiales offers to give Nico and Will a good nightmare, only to get a harsh rebuke that sends them hiding behind Nemesis. When Nico fights back, Nyx's children back off rather than helping her. After Nico takes control of the cacodemons, Nemesis, Hypnos and Epiales decide to help the demigods, Titan and skeleton cat to escape with Epiales stating that at least the demigods appreciate their talents unlike Nyx. The three children of Night restrain Nyx together and Epiales thanks Nico for showing the two gods and the demon the truth too. As the group makes their escape, Nyx breaks free of Hypnos and Epiales' grip and chases after them only to be repelled by the River Acheron.

Abilities

• Hypnokinesis: Epiales can trap others in a state of sleep and make them experience dream their victims bodies and minds think are real.
