Hubris or Hybris means deadly pride or arrogance. Hubris is thinking you can do anything better than everyone including the gods. It is a common fatal flaw for demigods.

Hubris often indicates a loss of contact with reality and an overestimation of one's own capabilities, especially when the person is in a position of power. According to Annabeth, it is a Fatal Flaw shared by many demigod children of Athena.

Annabeth shows her fatal flaw, hubris, during their encounter with the Sphinx, a monster that asks riddles in the ancient times. She refused to answer the monster's questions and refers to them as "bunch of dumb, random facts" and "a stupid test." The trivia questions were an insult on her intelligence as a child of Athena. This caused the Sphinx to attack them, as Annabeth refused to answer her.
