A funeral is a ceremony held to honor an individual who has recently died.
Description[]
When an individual dies, they are mourned by their closest friends and family. The process of the funeral changes depending on the cultural that holds it:
- At Camp Half-Blood, campers are covered in burial shroud and cremated. If no body can be recovered, then the shroud is burnt in place of the deceased.
- At Camp Jupiter, a funeral is held for the deceased almost immediately. The Legion honors their deceased as a hero, with the deceased being pulled by Hannibal to their divine parent or ancestor‘s temple to be cremated on the pyre. The fallen Roman‘s cohort acts as honor guard while the other four cohorts fall behind. The funeral is headed by either the augur or Pontifex Maximus, however a god can perform funeral rites as well. The deceased is given an honorary last meal before being cremated. The deceased is covered in a purple shroud and members of the deceased's cohort act as pallbearers.
- At the Hotel Valhalla, the deceased is wrapped in a shroud and placed in a boat with items such as armor and weapons. The deceased is then cremated on the boat in a body of water, as is Norse tradition.

The Battle of the Labyrinth[]
When Percy Jackson returns from Ogygia, he witnesses his own funeral. After the Battle of the Labyrinth, a mass funeral is held for the campers who died during the fight. This includes Lee Fletcher and Castor.
The Last Olympian[]
After destroying the Princess Andromeda, a funeral for Charles Beckendorf is held. After the Battle of Manhattan, funerals for the demigods of Camp Half-Blood including Michael Yew, Silena Beauregard, Ethan Nakamura, Luke Castellan and various unknown demigods and Hunters are held.
