–Hades to Percy Jackson and Grover Underwood in We Find Out the Truth, Sort Of |
Hades is the Greek god of the dead and the ruler of the Underworld.
History[]
Percy Jackson and the Olympians (TV series)[]
Season One[]
"We Find Out the Truth, Sort Of"[]
Hades welcomes Percy Jackson and Grover Underwood to his palace and offers the boys refreshments. Percy demands Hades hands over his mother and he takes the two to her. Hades says he will return Sally in exchange for what Percy has. However when Percy reveals he has the Master Bolt, Hades becomes confused and reveals he wants his Helm of Darkness back as it was used to steal the bolt. Soon, Percy realizes Kronos was behind everyone and Hades, seeing that a war is coming, demands the bolt for his own protection and offers Percy, Sally, and Grover sanctuary in the Underworld. Percy accepts Hades first offer, the helm for his mother, before using his pearl to return to the Land of the Living.
"The Prophecy Comes True"[]
After recovering the Helm of Darkness from Ares, Percy keeps his end of the deal with Hades by sending it back to the Underworld with Alecto along with a message that he expects Hades to please keep up his end of the deal too.
After Percy stops the war between Zeus and Poseidon, Zeus lists Hades as one of the gods who knows about Kronos' return along with Hermes and Ares. Poseidon tells his son that he doesn't know when Hades will return Sally Jackson as the God of the Dead can be difficult. Nevertheless, Hades returns Sally to the mortal world by the end of the summer and Percy reunites with his mother after returning home from Camp Half-Blood.
Appearance[]
Hades is a very tall, imposing and very muscular god with albino white skin.
Personality[]
Hades displays a fairly friendly disposition while talking with Percy and Grover, pointing out that he had saved Sally from certain death by the Minotaur by abducting her and attempting to negotiate a trade for his Helm of Darkness which Hades mistakenly believes that Percy had stolen. Hades reveals that he's content with ruling the Underworld and prefers to stay out of his brothers' family drama and so has nothing to do with the theft of the Master Bolt which he doesn't want.
After Percy realizes that Kronos is the true culprit, Hades becomes visibly unnerved at the idea that his father is returning. As a result, Hades attempts to get Percy to give him the Master Bolt out of the belief that Hades will need it to protect himself if Kronos really is rising. Hades goes so far as to offer Percy, Sally and even Grover sanctuary in the Underworld under his protection if Percy will give it to him. Hades appears to be rather stunned when Percy instead accepts Hades' original offer of trading the Helm of Darkness for Sally and departs with Grover, leaving his mother with the god of the Underworld. After Percy sends the Helm back with Alecto, Hades keeps up his end of the deal and returns Sally, although Poseidon warns his son that it could take a while as Hades can be difficult.
Abilities[]
- Main article: Necromancy (Camp Half-Blood)
As one of the Big Three, Hades has the ultimate powers a god can possess. They are rivaled only by those of his brothers, Zeus and Poseidon.
- Geokinesis: As the God of the Underworld, Hades has absolute control over all the earth and stones, as well as the walls of the Underworld, Erebos. He has the same geokinetic abilities as Nico and Hazel, only to a much more infinite level.
- Ferrokinesis: As the God of Wealth, Hades can sense and summon any quantity of precious metals and jewels from under the ground, as well as manipulate them. As a result, Hades is the richest Olympian of all. Hence, Hades is often referred to as "The Rich One."
- Magmakinesis (limited): As Hades controls underground, he has some control over magma and lava.
- Necromancy: As the God of the Dead and the Lord of the Underworld, Hades has divine authority and absolute control over the deceased. Hades' nickname "The Hospitable One" is a reference to him always having room in the Underworld for one more soul.
- Power Over the Undead: Hades can reanimate skeletons, call forth endless waves of the dead to fight for him. He can also silence dead souls with a gesture, and physically take hold of ghosts.
- Metamorphosis: Hades can capture and release living souls in a blast of yellow flames, shown when he abducted Sally Jackson.
- Death Curses: Hades is also able to place curses on the living. While he is unable to kill people before the Fates decree its time, he can prevent a person's soul from ever leaving their body, as he did with the Oracle of Delphi. This will mean that a person's body will eventually turn to dust with age, while their soul will be lost forever.
- Death Sense: As the God of the Dead, Hades can sense when a person is dying and when their soul is being judged in the Underworld.
- Life Sense: He can sense life auras. This can help him determine how much longer someone has left to live.
- Resurrection: As the God of the Dead, Hades is capable of resurrecting the dead.
- Osteokinesis: As the God of the Dead, Hades can summon and telekinetically control numerous bones at once.
- Infernal Monster Lordship: Hades has absolute control over countless ferocious monsters native to his realm, such as Cerberus, the Hellhounds, the Furies, the Keres, the Oneiroi, and various daimons, along with many others.
- Umbrakinesis: As the God of the Underworld, Hades has absolute control over shadows and darkness - the same as his children, but his are tremendously more powerful.
- Darkness Generation: He can shoot solid bolts of darkness, and surround enemies into pitch black clouds of lightless space.
- Imperceptibility: He can use shadows to cover himself in darkness to become invisible. While wearing his Helm of Darkness, Hades can pass through walls and melt into shadows, not be touched, seen or heard by anyone, even other Olympian gods, Titans, or Giants.
- Phobikinesis: Hades has absolute control and divine authority over the power of fear. This ability grows even more powerful with the Helm of Darkness.
Relationships[]
Trivia[]
- Unlike his book counterpart, this version of Hades is friendlier and doesn't resort to threats when he meets Percy. Hades also doesn't go into a rant about his troubles with running the Underworld due to the number of souls there now are.
