Hazel RR

Hazel Levesque, the bearer of the curse.

Hazel's Curse is a curse that was placed on Hazel Levesque at birth. It causes the precious gems that Hazel summons to cause the buyers to suffer.

History[]

Using a spell that Hecate found for her, Marie Levesque summoned the god Pluto and they fell in love. When Pluto offered Marie one wish, she wished for all of the riches of the Earth due to being tired of being poor despite the god's warning that the greediest wishes cause the greatest sorrows. As a result, Pluto and Marie's demigod daughter Hazel was born with the power to summon precious gems, but the gems were cursed and would cause the buyers to suffer. Marie refused to accept responsibility and blamed Pluto who told his daughter that one day a descendant of Neptune would wash away her curse and give her peace.

Under the influence of Gaea, Marie moved herself and Hazel to Alaska where Gaea forced Hazel to raise her oldest Gigantes son Alcyoneus by calling forth precious metals that were beneath the earth on a phantom island. Once Hazel had almost finished the job, she discovered that Gaea also needed a human sacrifice in order for her son to rise up and Hazel's mother offered to be the sacrifice to save Hazel as Gaea promised her Hazel would not be harmed if she sacrificed herself. Once Hazel discovered the treachery, she called up all the riches below her, causing an eruption that broke the cavern walls and ultimately destroyed the island. Hazel made a deal with the judges of the Underworld and went to the Fields of Asphodel in order to save her mother from the Fields of Punishment.

When Hazel was resurrected by her half-brother Nico di Angelo through the Doors of Death, her curse returned with her.

The Heroes of Olympus[]

The Son of Neptune[]

Hazel has flashbacks to when she was young and Gaea was trying to convince her mother to use Hazel's cursed gems to raise Alcyoneus.

The House of Hades[]

Hazel meets Hecate and learns that she was responsible for her mother getting the spell that summoned Pluto and resulted in her birth and consequently, Hazel's curse.

The Trials of Apollo[]

The Tyrant's Tomb[]

When Meg McCaffrey asks Hazel about her powers, she explains that she can summon precious metals as a daughter of Pluto, but that you can't spend what she summons. Apollo remembers Hazel's curse and Hazel informs the two that it's no longer a curse so much. Hazel explains how in the past, she couldn't really control her power to summon things and how if they were spent, terrible things would happen to the those who used them. However, a long time ago, Pluto had told Hazel that a descendant of Neptune would wash away her curse and Frank Zhang is a descendant of Neptune's Greek side Poseidon on his mom's side. Both living under curses, the two were able to understand each other and help each other through some dark times, making Hazel feel loved. Now Hazel can control her powers and jewels don't pop up randomly whenever she is upset. However, even though Hazel believes that her curse is broken, she still thinks that they are not meant to be spent and that Pluto wouldn't like it if they were.[1]

The Tower of Nero[]

Frank and Hazel inform Apollo that Hazel's curse is officially broken as far as they can tell. The two did an augury at Pluto's Shrine and it came up favorable. Hazel can now summon jewels and precious metals and use or spend them without causing any curses. However, Hazel only intends on using this freedom to improve Camp Jupiter and to honor the gods, not for tacky or selfish reasons.
