Hladgunnr was the daughter of Hel, Norse Goddess of the Dead, and the granddaughter of Loki and Angrboða. She was a former Valkyrie banished from the female warriors by Odin for her malicious sense of humor, a trait inherited from her grandfather.

Hladgunnr used to be a Valkyrie, but was too much like her grandfather, Loki. This meant she was too mischievous and was prone to chaotic trickery. She once led Ratatosk to the Great Hall in Valhalla, which cause quite a commotion and left the dinner ruined after the mead was spoiled for weeks because of Ratatosk's insults. Eventually, Odin cast Hladgunnr from the Valkyries and it was revealed centuries later by Utgard-Loki that after her banishment, Hladgunnr did come to the giant king, and told him all the mischievous pranks she pulled. She ended up dying, but Utgard-Loki promised her he would embarrass Odin for her before she met her end.
