Hunding serves as a doorman for the Hotel Valhalla.
History[]
When Hunding was alive, his and Helgi's families where in the middle of an ancient feud between them. When they died Odin favored Helgi and made him the manager of Hotel Valhalla. After, becoming the manager, Helgi made Hunding a servant.
Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard[]
The Sword of Summer[]
Hunding notices Magnus and takes him to the front desk to be checked in. He is shown to be arguing with Helgi, the manager, for a little. Then Hunding takes Magnus to his room and answers a few of his questions. When he drops Magnus off at his room and gestures for a tip. Magnus gives him a chocolate bar, which he happily accepts. He then leaves Magnus and tells him his Valkyrie will get him when dinner is served.
At the dinner, Hunding is seen standing by Helgi, peeling grapes and handing them to him one at a time. Magnus notes that he looked miserable. Samirah remarks on both of their pasts and uses this as a warning of Valhalla's "pecking order."
Hunding is later seen when Magnus and his friends are brought before the Thanes to be judged. He looked at Magnus with disappointment and was surprised when X revealed himself to be Odin.
The Hammer of Thor[]
Hunding's clothes are very dirty and ripped up when Magnus comes back to Valhalla. After commenting on the new visitor, he is given some espresso chocolate beans by Magnus.
The Ship of the Dead[]
He and Helgi see Magnus. They company off on their quest to recapture Loki. After Magnus asks him a question, he gives him a chocolate bar. Hunding looks concerned as they leave.
During the celebration, they play tug-o-war over a vat of chocolate sauce. His team is said to lose because Hunding was their anchor, and unfortunately craved the chocolate.

Just Another Decapitated Head[]
Hunding alerts Odin to a food fight among the Valkyries. After that he tells the Thanes of a meeting to select a new Valkyrie captain. When the meeting fails, Odin asks him to track Thor while he is jogging, have the Einherjar attack Heimdall to make sure he is ready for a sneak attack, and to tell the thanes he will be away while he goes under cover in the Valkyries to select a new captain.
Appearance[]
Hunding has a warty face smeared with ashes, an untamed beard that seems to 'have not been trimmed in decades', and 'murderous' bloodshot eyes under bushy eyebrows. He is usually seen in his doorman's uniform: a top hat, white gloves and a dark green jacket with tails and the interlocking letters HV embroidered on the lapel. The burly man possesses a double-bladed axe that hangs at his side and has been noted to smell like turpentine and burning meat.
Personality[]
Hunding is a helpful man who looks out for guests that treat him with kindness. He hates the control Helgi has over him but is loyal to his work in Valhalla. He also loved his family even after thousands of years and is still sentimental about them.
Trivia[]
- In Norse mythology, Hunding was the king of the Saxon tribe, who was slain by Helgi Hundingsbane in revenge for his father.
- He has a fondness for chocolate.
