Yeah, I have heard that a million times. Let’s free the others.

–To Apollo after he questioned her name, in The Dark Prophecy.

Hunter Kowalski is one of the Hunters of Artemis and a former prisoner of Commodus.

History[]

Hunter's past remains unknown. At one point she decided to join the hunters of Artemis and take the vow of maidenhood. Hunter may have made the Waystation home before the series as well.

The Trials of Apollo[]

The Dark Prophecy[]

Hunter Kowalski had been sent as an advanced scout by the other hunters. However, she promptly got captured by Commodus and his allies. She is eventually found by Apollo, Leo Valdez, and Meg McCaffrey. Leo had managed to melt a small hole in her cell, which she effortlessly escapes out of. Then Hunter and the rest of the freed prisoners join Leo in exiting the stronghold. Later, Hunter is presumably in the arena with the rest of the hunters, fighting the emperors' forces.

When Hunter and her sisters return to the Waystation, she is seen muttering with them and casting suspicious glances at Lityerses. She is among the crowd attempting to attack Lit after he revealed that their gryphons had been tracked. Apollo mentioned that she pressed a borrowed screwdriver on his throat. The following night, Hunter bunks in Georgina's room.

When Commodus attacks the Waystation, Hunter is seen skilfully leaping from foe to foe, pinning their kneecaps with arrows, dispatching blemmyae, wolf-headed warriors, and centaurs. When Commodus crashed out the window, she is seen below. Hunter claimed he simply vanished.

On the night of their victory, Hunter and her sisters tended to the wounded. Then they all saddled the liberated ostriches and continued their quest in defeating the Teumessian Fox.

The Tower of Nero[]

Hunter isn't mentioned. However, she probably was with her sisters, settling in the Waystation and taking break from fighting the Teumessian Fox. According to Reyna, they had trouble tracking it down and killing it.

Appearance[]

Hunter is described as a girl who looked no more than fifteen. She wore the standard Hunter wear, silver camo, and had shoulder-length hair that was stark white.

Personality[]

Hunter, like the rest of Artemis's handmaidens, is a fierce fighter ready to leap into action. She is shown as distrustful, first hesitant to like Olujime, then later Lityerses. However, Hunter cares for the residents of the Waystation, and has a deep bond with the rest of her sisters.

Abilities[]

  • Archery: Hunter is skilled at archery like the rest of her sisters. Apollo is impressed with her skills, remarking that, if he was a god, he would've rewarded her shoot-the-kneecap technique.
  • Gymnastics: She seems to be proficient in gymnastics. This can be seen by the way she leaped out of the small hole that Leo Valdez burned in the glass wall of her prison, and how she cut down monsters with ease while defending the Waystation.

Trivia[]

  • She expresses annoyance when Apollo states that she is a Hunter named Hunter, saying that she hears that a lot.
  • As Hunters never physically age, it is unknown whether her silver hair is natural or dyed.
