"I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom"[1] is the second episode of the first season of the Disney+ adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Synopsis[]

Percy finds his place at Camp Half-Blood, where he learns just how special his origins may be.

Plot[]

Over the next few days, Percy Jackson drifts in and out of consciousness. He sees a girl who says he drools in his sleep. He wakes up greeted by Grover Underwood and, upon seeing the Minotaur's horn, realizes his mother is dead and walks off looking for his father. He sees a man on a covered patio and after Percy introduces himself, the man says he is the camp director and calls him Peter Johnson. Percy gets annoyed just as Grover arrives and says the man is Dionysus. Percy says he is looking for his father and Dionysus says he is his father and asks Percy to get him a bottle of wine. Soon Mr. Brunner arrives and Percy is surprised to find that he is half horse. Grover introduces him as Chiron and has Percy walk with him. As the two walk off, Grover expresses that something feels off, but Dionysus brushes him aside.

As they walk, Chiron explains that Camp Half-Blood is a safe haven and training ground for demigods and upon arriving at the cabins, Chiron also reveals that Percy’s sword will always return to him so long as he does not give it up. Percy asks who his father is. Chiron says he does not know and takes Percy to the Hermes' Cabin, which takes it both Hermes' kids and the unclaimed. Chiron addresses the cabin that they have a new arrival before leaving. As Percy walks over to a bed roll, the other kids whisper about his exploits with the Minotaur. Soon the counselor arrives and introduces himself as Luke Castellan. Meanwhile, Grover goes into the woods to speak with the Council of Cloven Elders. He rushes to the Big House where Dionysus and Chiron are playing poker, informing them that he believes Sally Jackson is alive, however they inform him they have already realized this and do not intend to tell Percy.

Percy is sitting on a desolate landscape by a large campfire, when suddenly the ominous voice begins to speak to him, and the floor shakes before giving way. He awakens in the Hermes cabin, where Luke tells him dreams are normal for demigods, as are ADHD and dyslexia. As Luke, and several other children of Hermes, lead Percy from the cabin and discuss the merits of camp, Clarisse La Rue bumps into Percy and knocks him to the ground. Luke stops her from harming Percy, but she mocks Percy for thinking he is special for killing a minotaur. Percy realizes that if he has notoriety in the camp, like Luke, Clarisse will leave him alone and his father will be more likely to claim him. Luke decides to help him, and they go to the archery targets and then the forges, but Percy fails drastically at both.

At the dining pavilion, Percy sits with Luke and Chris Rodriguez, and asks them if there is a God of Disappointment. After joking around, Luke and Chris get up to burn their food for the gods, and explain that you do it before a prayer so that the gods will listen. Hearing this, Percy sneaks out at night to burn his mother's blue jellybeans and makes a prayer to her, he happily states he now has true friends - referring to Luke and Chris - as well as upset to his father. He promises her he will force him to pay attention.

Percy returns to the cabin to find Clarisse and some other children of Ares waiting, and they throw him into the toilets. Clarisse tells Percy to admit he lied about the minotaur, but he refuses, so Clarisse orders her siblings to dunk his head in the toilet. As they do so, the water vanishes before suddenly appearing and hitting them, leaving Percy untouched. After they flee, a girl appears who Percy recognizes from the infirmary. She introduces herself as Annabeth and admits she has been watching him for something to happen, and then asks him to join her Capture the Flag team.

The next day, Luke helps Percy prepare for Capture the Flag. He explains that Annabeth is the head counselor of Athena's Cabin, and has been waiting for a demigod to take her on a quest that cannot be prevented, and she believes it could be Percy. Luke also explains that he is Annabeth's brother, as before they joined camp they, and a 'forbidden child' of Zeus named Thalia, travelled together. Whilst Thalia didn't make it, Luke and Annabeth did and have been like family ever since.

The teams gather for Capture the Flag, and whilst everyone splits off, Annabeth orders Percy to follow her. As they walk, Percy trips and tries to tell Annabeth he is not skilled in combat. Annabeth puts on her Yankees Cap that turns her invisible, telling him to do great, confusing and annoying him. Luke leads an ambush on the opposing forces, successfully forcing them to surrender, but Chris worries they are heading straight to Clarisse. Luke reassures him that Percy has it handled. Meanwhile, a bored Percy flosses, pees, pets a lizard, then sunbathes on a log, when Clarisse sneaks up on him, wanting revenge for the previous night. She tells him that she will maim him, not caring about lost dessert privileges, and that all she wants is for him to admit the minotaur story was fake. After failing to fend off her and her siblings, Percy runs away and reaches the beach before getting cornered. They fight again, ending with Percy breaking her electric spear, and she screams in rage, preparing to harm him before Luke suddenly appears holding her teams flag in success. Annabeth removes her cap, and congratulates Percy, admitting she had been watching. Percy demands to know what is happening, and Annabeth apologizes before shoving him into the water. His wounds suddenly heal, and a large glowing trident forms above his head, shocking everyone around them. Chiron appears, announcing that Percy has been claimed by Poseidon and moves him into Poseidon's Cabin.

At the Big House, Chiron and Dionysus explain to Percy the meaning of being Poseidon's son, and that Zeus believes that Percy has stolen his Master Bolt. They tell Percy he must go on a quest to retrieve the bolt from Hades, to prove his innocence and prevent war, however he refuses angrily stating he is not Poseidon's son but Sally Jackson's, as she actually cares for him. Grover interrupts and, against both Chiron and Dionysus, reveals Sally is alive and likely being held hostage by Hades. Now given incentive, Percy asks when they will leave.

  • Luke, rather than Grover, gives Percy an abridged account of Thalia's story, and does not mention her transformation.
  • Grover consults the Cloven Council, who do not appear in the book series until The Battle of the Labyrinth.
  • Annabeth pushes Percy into the water rather than demanding he step into it.
  • Percy is not attacked by a hellhound at the end of the Capture the Flag game.
  • Percy learns about having to face Hades without the need of the Prophecy rather than Chiron showing his suspicions about the disloyal god before hearing it.
  • As of the end of this episode, Percy accepts the quest without a Prophecy indicating what he has to do.

Trivia[]

  • The title is derived from Chapter Six of The Lightning Thief while the episode itself is an adaptation of Chapters Five through Nine.
