Jennifer “Jennie” Byun is a member of the Samjogo clan.
Jennie was born into a wealthy family in the Samjogo clan of witches. While her parents worked most of the time, she was cared for by her grandmother. When she was five her grandmother taught her how to make a kite after one she made for her, Mr. Magpie, got ripped up after landing in a tree. When her grandmother died. She was alone most of the time and would fly a kite on the anniversary of her death.
One day after services, as she and the other young members of the Gifted Community head to classes, she tells the others about a vision her mother had involving the former head of the Horangi Clan trying to sneak into the temple and that the reopening of the library is a lie. When Riley Oh tells her to stop talking, she calls her a wannabe witch before Hattie Oh calls her out for being a bully.
The following Tuesday, she is helping David Kim get ready for his invitation when they run into Cosette Chung, who she thought was at space camp, and her sister Adeline, actually Riley and Emmett Harrison in disguise respectively, in the elevator. "Cosette" says camp was canceled and she and David soon exit.
The following day, David brings Riley, Emmett, and Taeyo to her house to deliver a message from her grandmother. Soon after her grandmother appears to say a final goodbye and informs Riley and Emmett that the latter's mother is now a vengeful ghost due to the guilt of being tricked into stealing an artifact. When her grandmother passes on, she promises to keep their visit a secret as Riley announces her plan to initiate into the Horangi, surprising everyone. David stays with her as the others leave. When Riley says goodbye, she replays with snark before apologizing and saying farewell back.
Jennie later has a vision of something going on in the Gi Sanctuary and takes David, Cosette, and Noah Noh with her to find the Ohs, Emmett, and three Horangi fighting the Cave Bear Goddess as she possessed Okja. She and David douse her with immobilization potion as Cosette distracts her. She and the others are shocked when Riley announces she is the last fallen star and watch as she destroys the Cave Bear Goddess's statue, expelling the goddess from Okja and the mortalrealm.
As things calm down, she and the others from Saturday school try to comfort Riley, but she runs away crying to he elevators, soon after she asks Austin how his biochip works. Unknown to everyone, Riley is given a wish by the Haetae to undo anything from her past and she decides to resurrect Hattie. He does so and, after a delay, Hattie is resurrected. They all cheer and promise to find a way to restore their memories of Riley as they fill Hattie in.
Jennie is a pre-teen of Korean descent. She always dresses in fashionable clothing and has manicured nails.
Jennie takes pride in being a member of the Samjogo Clan and belittles those she sees as beneath her.
What Jennie does not let others know is her intense loneliness after her grandmother died, causing her to lash out at other,
- Mystiokinesis: As a witch, she can perform and manipulate magic.
- Seeing: As a member of the Samjogo Clan, she can see the future as well as the past by touching an object.
