Leopard Statue

The Leopard Statue is one the statues that guards Nyame's Palace. It is based off of Leopard, one of the creatures that Anansi brought for the god, he was often named Osebo.

History

Anansi, the one who captured Leopard

To get stories, Anansi decided to go capture Leopard first. Anansi dug a deep pit in the ground and covered it with brushwood to make it seem like a pit. Then he went to a tree where Leopard was sleeping and pointed to the leaves causing Leopard to fall into the pit. Anansi feigned sympathy and asked asked Leopard if he'd been drinking again, something Anansi had constantly warned the Leopard about. Anansi lamented that he wanted to help Leopard , but was certain that Leopard would attempt to eat him afterward. Leopard insisted that he wouldn't, so Anansi agreed to help. He cut two long sticks with his knife for Leopard to climb out of the hole with and told Leopard to stretch his arms wide, this secretly left the Leopard vulnerable. Leopard attempted to scale the sticks so that he could escape, but Anansi withdrew his knife again and tossed it at Leopard. The hilt of the knife struck Leopard's head and the cat fell down into the pit unconscious. Anansi gathered some additional sticks and formed a ladder, descending to the bottom of the pit to collect Leopard to give to Nyame.
