Not part of Riordanverse

The following article/section is from the Sikander Aziz series continuity under Rick Riordan Presents and not the Riordanverse canon.

Lugal was the Mesopotamian god of Madness. He was searching for the Tablet of Destinies to resurrect his mother, the goddess Tiamat. His original name is Kingu, but in modern times, he goes by Lugal which is the Mesopotamian word for "war leader".

History[]

Before the universe was created, Lugal served as the general of his mother Tiamat's army of monsters against the other Mesopotamian Gods. Tiamat gave Lugal the Tablet of Destinies (which he wore as a breast plate) to help him win by giving Lugal the power to change fate. However, Tiamat was slain by Marduk and her body used to create the universe. Lugal's blood was then used to create humanity by the other gods, resulting in even modern-day humans sharing blood with him while the tablet was taken away from him.

Over the following millennia, Lugal caused death and destruction and the death of kingdoms. In 1066, Hailey's Comet was actually Lugal who caused the Battle of Hastings where England fell to the Normans. Lugal built the Tower of London and helped to make sure that all resistance was well and truly crushed before he left again.

Appearance[]

Lugal resembles a man of Middle Eastern descent with dark eyes and unkempt dark hair beard. He wears shabby clothes held together by duct tape.

Personality[]

Lugal is devoted to restoring his mother, no matter what the cost. Having been driven insane by his own inner torment, Lugal wants Tiamat to end everything, believing that it will finally bring the peace that he seeks.

According to Ishtar, Lugal built a high wall in his mind to protect himself from his pain and anguish, but all it did was trap the god in his own thoughts and drive him insane. Every now and then, the wall cracks and his emotions spill through, resulting in Lugal experiencing physical pain. If the light is let in through his wall, it will do so much more than destroy him.

After turning himself mortal for a moment and being shown the better side of humanity thanks to Sikander Aziz, as well as kindness, Lugal is left stunned as no one had ever shown him kindness in all of his existence. This caused Lugal to finally find peace in himself and fade from existence.

Abilities[]

  • Madness Inducement: Lugal is able to drive others to insanity.

Trivia[]

  • Kingu can also be spelled as "Qingu".
  • His Greco-Roman counterpart is Dionysus/Bacchus.
