Percy Jackson Disney+ Poster Not part of Riordanverse

The following article/section is from the Percy Jackson Show continuity and not the Riordanverse canon.

This article is about the Disney+ character. You may be looking for the Luke Castellan from the books, or the film character of the same name.

Stealing the bolt and the helm were easy. We’re going to need all the help we can get.

–Luke to Percy on his plans in “The Prophecy Comes True”.

Luke Castellan is a Greek demigod son of Hermes.

History[]

Luke's mother, May Castellan, is a seer, a human who can see through the Mist. This caused her to sometimes have disturbing visions, which broke her mentally, something that Luke blamed his father for.[1]

At some point, Luke ran away from home and, while on the road, he met Thalia, a forbidden child of Zeus, and became close. Due to Thalia's status as a forbidden child, she attracted monsters everywhere. One day, they found Annabeth Chase, a little girl, hiding in an alley. They were worried about taking her in and exposing her to all that danger. However, they saw her fight, and they became a surrogate family. Luke cared for her right away, but Thalia made her earn her love.[2] Grover Underwood soon found the three and was charged with escorting them to Camp Half-Blood. When they arrived at Camp Half-Blood, they were being chased by the Furies. Against Grover's wishes, Thalia turned back to fight to buy her friends some time. Thalia was mortally wounded in the fight, but Zeus intervened to save her life and changed her form to a magical tree.[3][4]

At some point, Luke was contacted by Kronos, and the Titan took advantage of Luke's anger and bitterness towards the gods to recruit the demigod to his side. Using tools provided to him by Kronos, Luke was able to steal the Helm of Darkness and then use it to steal the Master Bolt, although Kronos had to intervene when Luke was caught by Ares, whom he convinced to aid him.[1][5]

"I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom"[]

Luke befriended Percy Jackson when he first arrived at Camp Half-Blood, earning his trust and friendship. He welcomes him into the Hermes cabin (where children who haven't been claimed yet go), trains him in sword combat, and provides the moral support that Percy needed as a newcomer. He later went with his team and Percy to the Capture the Flag game, where Percy was claimed by Poseidon as his son.

"We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium"[]

When Chiron sends Percy along with Annabeth and Grover to find Zeus's Master Bolt, Luke gives Percy his pair of Winged Shoes as a gift. However, Percy gave the shoes to Grover because he shouldn't fly as Zeus is the Lord of the Skies, and does not like the children of Poseidon, his greatest rival.

"We Take a Zebra to Vegas"[]

In a dream, Percy witnesses what's later revealed to be Kronos, in the form of the Yancy Academy Headmaster, and Luke discussing the theft of the Master Bolt and their plans, although Percy is unable to see Luke or hear his side of the conversation. Kronos warns Luke that if he gives Kronos a reason to doubt him again, Kronos will find someone else to take Luke's place before detecting Percy's presence in the dream.

Percy and Annabeth later make contact with Luke via Iris Message, and they tell him that they believe the Lightning Thief to be Clarisse La Rue. However, Annabeth cuts the connection when Percy starts to ask Luke about Hermes due to Luke's hatred for his father. Percy later mentions Luke while trying to convince the god to help them.

"We Find Out the Truth, Sort Of"[]

Hades is revealed to not be behind the theft of the Master Bolt and instead had his Helm of Darkness stolen by Luke as well. In addition, the Winged Shoes that Luke had given to Percy attempt to drag Grover into Tartarus after the Master Bolt appears in the backpack that Ares had given to Percy. As a result, Percy realizes that Kronos is the one who is truly behind the theft.

"The Prophecy Comes True"[]

In a flashback, Percy remembers when he was being trained by Luke in sword fighting, in which the latter quite easily wins. Luke tells Percy that he needs to learn how to disarm properly. When Percy complains that he doesn't understand the rules, Luke tells him that part of warfare is knowing the rules and using them against your enemy. Later, during another flashback, Luke speaks to Percy about the gods and demigods.

After Percy delivers the Master Bolt to Zeus and returns to Camp Half-Blood, Luke devises a plan with Annabeth and Percy to ambush Clarisse and the members of Ares' Cabin. But during the plan Percy and Luke have a conversation about the Prophecy from the Oracle, in which Percy realizes that the reason why Clarisse wasn't confronted yet was because Luke didn't inform Chiron about her "betrayal" because he was the Lightning Thief. Luke responds that he didn't want to betray Percy and that the gods are his enemies. Luke uses Backbiter to open a doorway and tells Percy that he is here to recruit him and that they can be on the run as long as they want to, to which Percy and Luke start to fight with each other. During their fight, Luke knocks Percy down, but before he could strike Percy, his sword is deflected by Annabeth, who says that she heard everything. Upon hearing this, Luke runs towards the doorway created by Backbiter and escapes Percy and Annabeth.

Season 2[]

TBA

Appearance[]

Luke is a tall young man with an athletic, muscular build. He has a sharp nose and the sneaky look of all Hermes demigod children. He has a scar down the right side of his face, and he also has black curly hair and brown eyes.

Personality[]

Luke is very cool and charismatic, one of the more popular and intimidating camp residents. He is very protective and faithful to Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase. He is one of the toughest campers, yet can be very nurturing to younger and newer campers.

After being revealed as the Lightning Thief, Luke showed some remorse for the danger that Percy and the others were put in, having never thought that Percy would give the Winged Shoes to Grover, who was nearly sucked into Tartarus as a result. Despite his actions, Luke insists that he really was Percy's friend and that none of his actions were intended to betray Percy, having wanted to recruit Percy to his cause of fighting against the gods, who are Luke's enemies. Luke reveals the extent of his bitterness against the gods, stating that Kronos had merely opened his eyes to the truth. Luke only fights Percy when the other demigod refuses to join him. Although Luke can overpower Percy, he visibly hesitates before trying to kill him, but chooses to retreat after Annabeth reveals that she heard everything, leaving Luke visibly upset.

Luke is also shown to have a hidden anger, especially towards his father, as he loses his temper when Percy mentions that he met Hermes.

Abilities[]

  • Fighting Skills: Luke has been trained in hand-to-hand combat during his stay at Camp Half-Blood.
  • Swordsmanship: Luke was a highly capable swordsman known for his speed, far surpassing even the children of Ares and Athena in skill.

Magical Items[]

  • Winged Shoes (formerly): Luke was gifted a pair of winged shoes (appearing as red converse) from his father Hermes. They activate when the wearer says the phrase "Maia". Luke gave it to Percy, which would've dragged him into Tartarus with the Master Bolt if Percy didn't give the shoes to Grover.
  • Backbiter: A half-Celestial Bronze/half-steel sword. It has the ability to open secret doors, which he used to open a portal out of Camp Half-Blood.

Relationships[]

Annabeth Chase[]

Thalia didn't make it. Annabeth and I, we did, and we've been family ever since

–Luke, in "I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom".

Luke met Annabeth when she was only 7 years-old. He and Zeus's daughter, Thalia, were running from monsters when they came across daughter of Athena, Annabeth. Thalia didn't make it to camp but Annabeth and Luke did, and they have considered one another family ever since. Luke tells Percy that he's always on Annabeth's side, and he always wants what's best for her and for her to be happy. After Annabeth discovers his betrayal, Luke is left with a pained look on his face before he flees.

Percy Jackson[]

When Percy arrived at Camp Half-Blood, Luke welcomed him and made him feel comfortable, going as far as stealing toiletries for him, guiding him and giving him sword fighting lessons.

After being revealed as the true Lightning Thief, Luke insists that he was truly Percy's friend and had never intended to betray him, having only wanted to recruit Percy to his cause.

Hermes[]

Luke's godly parent. However, they don't get along because Luke blames his father for his mother going insane.
