It is time to unleash the drakon. Immediately. The defenders of Olympus are badly wounded. They will not expect a quick attack. Besides, we know this drakon they cannot beat.

Lord Kronos, in The Last Olympian

A Lydian Drakon is the oldest and most dangerous kind of drakon.

History[]

The Lydian Drakon is a name given to both a great serpent killed by Hercules and a serpent killed by the giant Damasen. In both myths, the drakon ravaged the village of Lydia.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians[]

The Last Olympian[]

Kronos unleashed one in Manhattan during his assault on Olympus. This Lydian Drakon had a fate that it would only be killed by a child of Ares. Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Mrs. O'Leary were fighting it and managed to blind one of its eyes. They were losing when a warrior clad in Clarisse La Rue's armor came leading the Ares' Cabin into battle. The warrior turned out to be Silena Beauregard, who was killed by the drakon's poison, but the ruse worked, as Clarisse appeared. Clarisse single-handedly took it down without any armour in a fit of rage because her friend had died, stabbing the drakon in the eye with such an immense force the spear that was used shattered and all electrical energy within Maimer, her electric spear, was unleashed upon the drakon.

She then tied the drakon's skin to the back of her chariot and used it to scare off the Titan Army, like Achilles did to the body of Hector during the Trojan War.

Appearance[]

Chinese Last Olympian

It is described to have no legs and crawls like a snake but is still very fast and has a paralyzing stare that can freeze opponents out of sheer terror. Percy describes it as not like Medusa's petrifying stare, but as "oh-my-Gods-this-thing-is-going-to-eat-me stare." It is over two hundred feet long and can secrete an acidic venom that can corrode armor. Its scales are extremely durable and virtually indestructible, making the monster exceptionally hard to destroy. The best spot to attack a drakon is its soft, vulnerable eyes. Percy describes it in The Last Olympian to have "eyes like search lights and is as thick as a school bus."

Abilities[]

  • It can secrete acid.
  • Its stare can paralyze you out of sheer terror.
