The Maafa is a force of anger and darkness imprisoned beneath the surface of the Burning Sea.
Tristan Strong Trilogy[]
Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky[]
After Tristan Strong inadvertently created the tear in the sky’s of Alke, the Maafa has gained power and has started abducting the residents of Alke. When a Story Box is repaired, it goes to the Golden Crescent to get it and gain more power with hundreds of iron monsters. During the attack Tristan boards with the story box and tells it Uncle C plans do using it to overthrow the Maafa. It posses Brer Fox, Tarrypin, and Netta to speak with Tristan. The boy offers to get rid of the haint and tell the story of how the gods defeated it if it releases the prisoners. The Maafa agrees but says that when Uncle C is taken care of, it will sink and Tristan must get off himself. When Tristan rids it of Uncle C, it starts to Submerge as promised.
Tristan Strong Destroys the World[]
As it lay slumbering, the Maafa was pillaged by Brer Bear, who took pieces of iron monsters to create his Shamble Man costume along with a mask of Uncle Cotton’s face made from Gum Baby's sap that, unknown to him, contained the essence of the haint. Later, Tristan returns to ask about the Shamble Man and and Uncle Cotton and, along with telling him about the pillaging and that the haint's remains are no more, asks if their deal is still intact and threatens to unleash his forces on Alke again. Tristan says it is and it sends it’s forces to attack him and his friends, but they escape.
Appearance[]
The Maafa takes the form of a massive ship, larger then the Bone Ships, It’s Hull is littered with mold and barnacles and stinks of rotten fish.
Abilities[]
- Possession: The Maafa can possess others to talk through.

- Maafa is a Swahili word meaning disaster or catastrophe, specifically used to represent slavery.
