- Missisippi’s gulf coast was taken from the panhandle of Florida.
- Mississippi was the last southern state to still bear the battle flag of the Army of the Confederate States of America on its state flag. It was voted to be removed on June 28th, 2020. The new flag was unveiled on January 11th, 2021.
