The Sword of Summer

The Norns appear after Magnus's death is shown. They reveal that he is a son of Frey and recite a prophecy.

Appearance

The Norns are described in The Sword of Summer as three 9-feet-tall women shrouded in white. Under their hoods, their faces are beautiful, but unnerving – blank white, even their eyes, with their skin being like sculpted snow. Trailing behind them is a sheet of fog like a bridal train.

When they speak, it comes as a soft disembodied voice which resonates, seeping into Magnus' head, "turning [his] skull into an icebox."

Abilities

  • Control over Fate: They all have power to control the fates of the Norse Gods, giants, and other Norse Mythological beings.

Trivia

  • Their Greco-Roman counterparts are the Moirai/Fates.
  • In mythology, the three main Norns are named Urd ("fate"), Verdandi ("present"), and Skuld ("future").
  • The Norns originate from Jotunheim, and are classified as giants.
  • The Viking death metal band Amon Amarth has an album titled Fate of Norns. The band itself has many songs involving Norse mythology.
