The Serpent's Shadow[]
Before the first month after the death of Michel Desjardins was out, Apophis continued to build strength, manipulating conflict between separate factions within the House of Life after the Hated One seduced Sarah Jacobi and Kwai — the leaders to a rebel movement that had taken shape against Amos Kane — to his side. With the insurrection beneath his control, Apophis coordinated the attacks that his own forces made with those launched by Jacobi and her followers to further divide the Kanes and their remaining alliance. During this growing conflict, the Fourteenth Nome was left in ruins with the hieroglyph for chaos branded onto its front door, possibly to spite the late Chief Lector for having delayed Apophis' rise to power. This was showed to Carter Kane in a message to him that Sarah Jacobi had broadcasted across the various nomes, demanding his surrender and decrying the role that his family had played by releasing the Egyptian Gods.
