Look, I didn't want to be a half-blood. Being a half-blood is dangerous. It's scary. Most of the time it gets you killed, in painful, nasty ways. If you think you might be one of us, my advice is turn away while you still can, because once you know what you are... they'll sense it too and they'll come for you. Don't say I didn't warn you.

–Percy in the pilot episode, I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher

Perseus "Percy" Jackson is the titular main protagonist of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV series. He is the Greek demigod son of Poseidon and Sally Jackson.

History

Perseus "Percy" Jackson was born to Poseidon, the Greek god of the seas, storms, earthquakes, and the creator of horses, and Sally Jackson, a mortal who could see through the Mist. He was named after the famous Greek hero Perseus by his mother for good luck, because his namesake was one of the few heroes who had a happy ending and died a peaceful death.[1][2]

When Percy was still an infant his father Poseidon left, leaving Sally to raise Percy on her own. Sometime while Percy was a toddler, Sally married Gabe Ugliano and hoped his horrible smell would mask her son from the monsters that would hunt him. Monsters are attracted to the scent of demigods; the more powerful the demigod, the stronger the scent. With Percy being a son of one of the Big Three, his scent would be even stronger than other demigods. However, Percy despised Gabe, as Gabe would frequently bully Percy and abuse his mother.[1][2]

As a side effect of his hybrid physiology, Percy developed dyslexia and ADHD. Strange things often happened around Percy, such as him seeing various magical creatures that no mortal could see, which led to him being examined by psychiatrists. This unfortunately made Percy stand out. Many people bullied him during his childhood, like Nancy Bobofit at Yancy Academy. Then, Percy met Grover Underwood, whom he had a lot in common and they became best friends.[2]

Percy Jackson and the Olympians (TV series)

Season One

"I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher"

Percy Jackson is a troubled twelve-year-old boy with ADHD and dyslexia attending Yancy Academy in New York. He sees things no one else believes to be true (like the Colchis bull turning into a dump truck). He is bullied in school by his classmate Nancy Bobofit and her gang. His best and only friend is Grover Underwood and his favorite teacher is Mr Brunner. On a field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, he is given a ballpoint pen (later revealed to be a sword) by Mr Brunner. After seeing a statue of the Greek hero Perseus, his namesake, Percy remembers his mother telling him about Medusa and Greek gods and heroes. After Nancy continues to bully Grover, Percy loses his temper and accidentally pushes Nancy into a water fountain, to his own surprise. This catches the attention of his algebra teacher, Mrs Dodds, who reveals herself as a Fury, servants of the Greek god Hades. She accuses the bewildered Percy of a theft and attacks him, though the Mist conceals her from mortal eyes. Percy remembers the pen Mr. Brunner gave him and uses it to kill the Fury, who turns into golden dust. After this, everyone at school, including Grover (it seemed) forgot about Mrs. Dodds. Then Nancy raises a fuss about Percy pushing her into the fountain and both Percy and Grover are taken to the principal's office. Despite his pleading, the principal expels Percy, heeding Grover's evidence against Percy. Percy feels betrayed and hurt at Grover breaking his trust and blows off Mr. Brunner when he tries to talk to Percy about something while the latter is headed home.

Upon returning to his apartment in New York, Percy sees his stepfather Gabe Ugliano lying on a beanbag, drinking beer. When asked where Percy's mom is, Gabe replies rudely that he does not know and that he "is not Nostradamus". Disgusted, Percy goes to his bedroom where he sees his beloved mother, Sally Jackson. Sally hugs her son joyfully and tells him that they are going to their cabin on the beach at Montauk and hands him a packet of blue candy, which are Percy's favorite. Although Gabe objects to the trip, Sally manages to persuade him.

In the cabin, Sally reveals to Percy at she met his father at that very place. When a confused Percy asks what has his absent father got to do with anything, Sally reveals that his father was a Greek god and that the old Greek myths are real. She also says that Percy's father told her to send him to a special summer camp for half-gods like him. Percy is understandably bewildered and does not believe his mother.

However, when a panicking Grover barges in their cabin and is revealed to be a satyr who was tasked to safely escort Percy to Camp Half-Blood, Percy begins to be convinced. It is revealed that Sally knew Grover's true identity and the latter tells her that he smells a lot of monsters after Percy and that they had to get Percy to camp immediately. Under the heavy rain, Sally drives Percy and Grover very near to the camp and reveals that she cannot enter, as she is a mortal. However, their car crashes after a lightning strike and the monster chasing Percy is revealed to be the Minotaur. Sally asks Grover to take Percy to Camp Half-Blood while she distracts the monster. After a tearful goodbye, mother and son depart in opposite directions.

But for all of her big heart and kindness, Sally is just a mortal and the Minotaur soon picks her up and attempts to kill her. Instead of dying, however, she turns into golden dust. A grief-stricken Percy, believing her dead, activates his pen-sword and rushes to fight the Minotaur. He loses his sword in the fight but manages to kill the Minotaur with its own horn, which he rips off. Upon staggering to camp, (probably with Grover's help) Percy passes out. In his delirious state, he sees Mr. Brunner, later revealed to be the centaur Chiron and a girl about his own age, before becoming unconscious once again.

"I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom"

Percy wakes up in the infirmary of Camp Half-Blood, where he sees a nervous Grover, now proudly wearing his identity as a satyr, checking up on him. He rushes out and meets Mr D, the camp director. When Percy demands to meet his godly father, Mr D jokingly says that he is Percy's father and asks Percy to get him an alcoholic drink from the lake. Percy takes him seriously and nearly leaves to get the drink, till Chiron arrives, in his centaur form, and says that Mr D, who is the Greek god Dionysus, has been forbidden by his father Zeus to drink alcohol, so he is trying to get a demigod like Percy to get it for him, and he is certainly not Percy's father. After this, Chiron gives the newly presented demigod a tour of the camp, while Grover departs to face his judgement at the Council of Cloven Elders.

On the tour, Percy sees Poseidon's cabin and appears to be transfixed by it. However, Chiron led Percy to the Hermes cabin, Cabin Eleven, where he was to stay till his father claimed him, just like all other unclaimed demigods. There, Percy meets the cabin's head counsellor, Luke Castellan, a son of Hermes, who treats Percy as a friend and gives him advice to earn respect from other demigods.

Percy runs into Clarisse La Rue, a vicious daughter of Ares, whom he recognizes as a bully. Clarisse backs up from bullying him when she sees Luke and some other Hermes campers with him. Later that day, however, Clarisse and a few of her goons ambush Percy and attempt to dunk his head in the toilet. But their attempt at bullying him goes awry when Percy, unknowingly using his godly powers, makes the toilet explode, drenching everyone except himself. An impressed Annabeth Chase, a daughter of Athena and the best warrior at Camp Half-Blood, who confesses to stalking him, recruits him on her team during capture the flag.

One day at lunch, Luke tells Percy that Annabeth is like his little sister, and how he and Thalia Grace, a forbidden daughter of Zeus, had met Annabeth on the streets. Though Thalia hadn't made it, Luke and Annabeth had been very close ever since. He also says that the Hermes cabin always sides with Athena at capture the flag, as he always has had Annabeth's back.

Percy being claimed-Disney+

Percy being claimed by Poseidon.

Capture the flag begins and Annabeth puts Percy in the middle of nowhere and uses her invisibility cap to disappear, as she had an ulterior motive after hearing of Percy's need for his father to claim him. Percy grows angry at her, but soon gets bored when he sits for hours with nothing to do. However, as he rests on a large rock, he is attacked by Clarisse and her goons, who had not forgiven him for drenching them in toilet water and humiliating them. He does his best to counter their attacks, but they are highly trained and he is very new to being a demigod. They chase him to the lake, where they see Annabeth's team successfully return with the flag, winning the game. When Annabeth appears from nowhere to congratulate Percy, he yells at her as to why didn't she help him if she saw him fighting three on one. With an apology, Annabeth pushes him into the lake. While he shouts in anger at her, the others see his wounds heal the moment he stepped into the water. Then the green hologram of a trident appeared over his head, claiming him as a son of Poseidon, god of the sea, Earthshaker, Stormbringer and marking him as a forbidden child, just like Thalia.

Soon after, Chiron and Mr D tell Percy that Zeus's Master Bolt has been stolen and he has accused Percy's father, Poseidon, of using Percy to steal it. However, Chiron suspects that the third brother, Hades, has stolen the Master Bolt to expand his domain. Chiron tells Percy that he must go on a quest to find it before civil war breaks out on Olympus. Percy refuses, seeking only to find his mother and having no wish to help his absent father. However, Grover reveals to Percy that his mother is still alive and that Hades has her captive. This shakes Percy and he agrees to go on the quest, not to find the Master Bolt but to rescue his mother, and asks Chiron when does he leave for the quest.

"We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium"

Before leaving for his quest Percy goes to seek direction from the Oracle of Delphi. The Oracle shows him the face of his stepfather Gabe Ugliano who delivers the prophecy. He tells Percy that "You shall go west and face the God who has turned, and you shall find what was stolen and see it safely returned". Chiron interprets this as Percy needing to be sent to Hades and journey to Los Angeles where the entrance to the Underworld lies. Chiron presents the camps most formidable campers as potential companions for the quest, cutting off his introduction Percy chooses Annabeth immediately. Percy then goes to see Grover who is scooping Pegasus poop as punishment for telling Percy about his mom, Percy tells Grover that he is his going to be his second companion. When asked why Percy chose him, Percy recalls the last part the prophecy that "You shall be betrayed by the one that calls you friend, and fail to save what matters most in the end", and tells Grover it's because he trusts him and nothing is more important.

While packing for the quest, Luke comes up and presents Percy a pair of beaten up red converse which Luke revels to be Winged Shoes, a gift from his father that activates when you say "maia." Percy tells Luke he thought about choosing him before Grover, but he couldn't risk Luke taking Annabeth's side against him. Before leaving, Percy and Grover see Annabeth having a moment with a tree on the border of camp. Grover explains to Percy that the tree is her friend Thalia who was turned into a tree by her father Zeus to save her life against monsters.

While on the train, Percy wonders why they can't take a plane, as it would be faster. Grover explains how Percy, being a forbidden child, could be targeted by Zeus and the sky being his domain, it wouldn't be safe for him. When the bus stops, Annabeth tells the boys to stay put while she goes and gets snacks, she and Percy biker. Grover starts to sing a consensus song which the two dismiss. The boys stay and Annabeth goes in. Grover explains the danger of monsters smelling demigods and how a forbidden child is at the most risk, as well as they each sense a demigods weakest area. While in the gas station Annabeth runs into another Fury. and sees her sister back on the bus. The three flee from the bus and on the way out, Annabeth slays one of the Furies.

The three are forced to travel along a path in a forest in New Jersey. Percy suggests calling camp which Annabeth explains would be giving up and a quest us supposed to be hard. He then suggests they call Annabeth's mom Athena. As Annabeth and Percy lash out at one another, Annabeth asks Percy what he's so afraid of and Percy dodges the question. Annabeth asks Grover for help and Percy tells her he's supposed to be on his side it is revealed that Grover was Annabeth, Luke, and Thalia's protector when they were heading for camp. Before Grover has a chance to comment, he tells the two that he smells someone cooking hamburgers. The two follow him as he hurries down the path, they exit the forest onto a paved road.

A little ways down the path, they come across a place called Aunty Em's Gnome Emporium. Before they can leave, they see the Fury Alecto who tells Annabeth she should've accepted her offer. Aunty Em comes out of her store and everyone, including Alecto, immediately averts their eyes. Em reveals that she knows who Percy is and offers the three shelter from Alecto. Even after telling them she is in fact Medusa, Percy tells Annabeth and Grover that he thinks they can trust her. When met with disagreement, he tells them his mom said Medusa is misunderstood and he trusts his mom.

Medusa acknowledges that Annabeth is a daughter of Athena but tells her she won't hate her just for that and offers them lunch which the boys eat. Percy asks why Alecto is afraid of her and Medusa tells her story on how Athena was everything to her, she later met Poseidon and he told her he loved her. Athena told Medusa she had embarrassed her, and that she needed to be punished and no one would see her again. Annabeth defends her mother and Medusa tells her the gods are only bullies, Medusa goes into the kitchen and asks Percy to join her. When they leave, Annabeth tells Grover to prepare to run. While in the kitchen, Medusa tells Percy that Annabeth is going to betray him. She plants doubt in Percy about Grover and Annabeth allowing him to save his mother, and offers to remove them so Percy can be free of them. While her back is turned, he flees. She removes her veil and goes to find them.

The three are in her basement, surrounded by dozens of petrified victims. Grover has put the winged shoes on and he tries to tell Annabeth and Percy his plan but accidentally says "maia" too soon and flies off. Percy and Annabeth dives behind boxes to hide from Medusa who threatens to send their statues to Olympus. Percy activates Riptide and jumps out in front of her with his eyes shut. She lurks around him and when she goes to open his eyes, Grover crashes right in front of her, drawing her attention. Annabeth jumps up and puts her cap on Medusa so Percy can safely swing at her. He cuts off her head and uses it to go and kill Alecto.

When Annabeth and Percy come back to the basement, they see Grover tearing up in front of a statue of a satyr who he reveals is his Uncle Ferdinand. As the three try to figure out what to do with the head now, Percy suggests leaving the hat on it and keeping it in the basement. Annabeth asks Medusa what she meant when she told Percy he could've saved her mother, and he questions her in return about what Alecto meant when she said to Annabeth that she should've accepted her offer. Grover cuts off their bickering, he tells Percy he can't leave the hat here, it's the only thing Annabeth has from her mother, and he chastises Annabeth on her insensitivity to Percy's mom being alive. Grover tells them how he's been trying all day not to upset either of them. He tells Percy to answer Annabeth's question about what he's afraid of. Percy tells them the rest of the Oracle's prophecy and how he doesn't know what to think or who to trust. Annabeth tells the other two how Alecto offered to help their quest if she turned in Percy, and Percy tells them how Medusa offered to help him save his mom if he turned in the two of them. Percy brings the other two over to a table where he packs up Medusa's Head to mail to Olympus. The other two protest as to not anger the Gods but Percy reasons that it's more like an offering, and this way, Annabeth can keep her hat. When they continue to protest, Percy starts singing Grover's consensus song.

"I Plunge to My Death"

Percy, Annabeth and Grover continue their travel westward on a train. Percy has a nightmare, seeing the creepy voice in the pit that warned him "she was coming." Annabeth tells Percy about Thalia and how Annabeth met her and Luke when she was seven. She also told Percy of her troubled family life and the reason behind her running away from home at the tender age of seven. The next morning at breakfast, Grover tells Percy about the wild god Pan and his disappearance, after they spot a herd of wild centaurs in a field. However, a police officer informs them that their cabin window has been broken and their cabin has been ransacked, accusing the trio of doing it. While the three are very confused, a strange woman starts talking with them. It is soon revealed that the woman was Echidna, the Mother of Monsters. She sets her child, the Chimera, on the three demigods, whom she calls the "real monsters". They escape, thanks to Annabeth stabbing the Chimera with her Celestial bronze dagger, but not before the Chimera stings Percy, poisoning him.

Annabeth leads Percy and Grover to the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, which she claims to be sacred to her mother, Athena, who will provide them sanctuary. However, Percy soon succumbs to the poison. Annabeth and Grover splash him in water, hoping it would heal the poison as it healed his wounds the day Poseidon claimed him. But their effort was in vain, causing Percy to remark that Poseidon does not care about him. Annabeth wants to take him to the highest viewpoint in the Arch, which, according to her, is an altar to Athena, so that Athena can heal Percy. Then they spot Echidna enter the Arch with the Chimera, telling Annabeth in her monster language that her mother would not help them as "her impertinence had angered Athena", when she did not protest as Percy mailed Medusa's head to Olympus. This had embarrassed Athena, so she refused help her daughter and her friends. They got to the highest viewpoint on the Arch, where Annabeth sounded the alarm to evacuate the mortal tourists. She told Grover to take the weakened Percy to the river, where his father may heal him and to go complete the quest, while she sacrificed herself to stop the Chimera. Percy offered her his sword, Riptide, but switched places with her by tricking her. Despite Grover and Annabeth's repeated pleas, Percy went on to the face the Chimera in his poison-weakened state.

After a brief fight, Percy fell through a hole in the floor of the Arch made by Echidna, straight into the Mississippi River. He panics for a while, not realizing he can breathe normally underwater. He watches the water heal the poison in his body. A Nereid, who claimed to be sent by Percy's father, Poseidon, said that Poseidon was very sorry that he couldn't help Percy directly and that he was very proud of his demigod son. She also tells him to breathe as he would up on land. Percy, much to his amazement, realizes that he can breathe underwater and thinks that maybe his father does care about him.

"A God Buys Us Cheeseburgers"

Percy climbs out of the river and tells his friends his father will meet them in Santa Monica. Grover informs them that the authorities have blamed them for the incident on the train and the explosion at the arch. As they would be arrested if they go on public transportation, the three walk. As they walk, Percy speculates who could have stolen the Master Bolt on Hades' behalf, realizing he is the last one to realize there is a second traitor. He also understands he needs to take this more seriously when they hear a motorcycle and hide behind a barricade. Annabeth starts acting weirdly, which Percy mistakenly believes to be about their hug, but she reveals that the fates cutting the string means one is going to die soon. However the biker addresses them and they reveal their position, he tells them they're running late. As the man talks, Annabeth realizes he is Ares. Ares offers them help if he meets them at a diner down the road.

They find Ares at the diner, starting fights on Twitter, where he reveals he knows that their quest will fail. He also shows them a video of Gabe being interviewed, where he cries over his destroyed car and blames Percy for Sally Jackson's disappearance. Ares explains that Zeus will go to war with Poseidon if the bolt is not returned and happily offers to help them get to Santa Monica without being arrested, which Annabeth finds suspicious. Ares states he believes that a war will happen even if the bolt is returned, as that's what his family are like, but wishes to help them get the bolt as ordered. In return, Ares requests they find his shield and an amusement park down the road. After Annabeth offends the god, Percy agrees to his terms. Ares requests Grover stays behind and, despite his companion’s protests, Grover agrees and walks them to the door. Percy and Annabeth promise to come back before heading out and Grover returns to the booth.

Percy and Annabeth arrive at the abandoned waterpark, where Percy learns that Annabeth has never seen a movie, so he offers to take her to one after the quest. As Percy steps through the toll booth, Annabeth notices a trap made of Celestial Bronze, explaining its properties. As she tries to figure out how to save him, she becomes distracted by the machines ingenuity, and also explains that the park was likely built by Hephaestus. Eventually, she instructs Percy just to step through, asserting that whoever built the park doesn't want to kill Demigods, only dissuade them from entering. They wander around the park, discussing where to go. They realize that Ares likely met Aphrodite, Hephaestus' wife, in the park, which is how he lost his shield. Suddenly, the lights for 'Tunnel Ride O Love' turn on, and they tentatively enter. As they are riding on the boat and talking, 'What is love' suddenly starts playing, which Percy recognizes from the orthodontists. They realize that the animated people on the walls are telling the story of Hephaestus, who was rejected by his mother Hera who threw him off a cliff, and then rejected by his wife Aphrodite who unabashedly cheats with Ares. Percy darkly states that this is what the gods are like to each other, and that Sally likely told him these stories to warn him and keep him away from their lifestyle. Suddenly the ride speeds up, and they rocket through tunnels before passing by a gold statue holding the shield. The two of them dive off, with Percy using his water powers to save Annabeth.

Percy tells Annabeth the myth of the gold chair; Hephaestus gave it as a gift to Hera, but it entrapped her and nobody, even the Gods, could free her. Eventually, they offered Aphrodite as his bride, and Hephaestus let her go, meaning one of them has to be turned to gold to get the shield. Annabeth instantly offers herself, to Percy's protests, after arguing Percy points out he picked her as she would sacrifice him if the quest required it and that she would likely succeed more. Annabeth promises to free him after getting the bolt from Hades. Percy sits, and the chair turns him into gold, as Annabeth tearfully begs him to just stand up. Ignoring the shield, Annabeth desperately attempts to free Percy but is unable, when suddenly a figure appears on the balcony above, asking if she needs assistance. She ignores him, but the man plays a few notes and a ladder to safety appears, revealing himself as Hephaestus. Annabeth continues to ignore him, as he talks about how Athena has recently been displeased with her. Annabeth breaks down crying and says that Percy is better than how her mother was, and she doesn't want to continue down Athena's path. This emotionally moves Hephaestus, who was only intending on trapping Ares, and frees Percy. He tells the two of them that 'some of us don't like being that way either' and promises to put in a good word with Athena, before vanishing.

The two of them, exhausted, return to the diner and give Ares his shield back. He takes them to a large white truck belonging to 'Kindness International' and tells them it will arrive at the Lotus Hotel and Casino in Vegas within a few hours, where they can get help from Hermes. He tells Percy not to worry, as Poseidon has plenty of children he stopped caring about, but Percy stands up, angrily telling Ares they are not going to fail and that he doesn't know who Percy truly is. Grover interjects before Percy goes too far, and thanks Ares for the 'emotional abuse and cheeseburgers' before dragging his friend inside the truck. Percy and Annabeth wonder if Ares was telling the truth about the lorries' destination, before Grover says that Ares was lying, and that he now knows who stole the Master Bolt.

"We Take a Zebra to Vegas"

As Kindness International goes towards Las Vegas, Percy dreams of a man berating an unknown student for failing in his operations and that they can be easily replaced. The man addresses Percy shortly before he awakens. He wakes up to find Annabeth and Grover setting up an Iris Message to camp. As they work, Grover theorizes that Clarisse La Rue stole the Master Bolt and Ares is covering for her. They call camp and are met by Luke Castellan. He tells the three that things at camp are becoming tense and campers are choosing between Zeus and Poseidon. Before Percy can mention they are meeting with his dad, Annabeth ends the call and reveals that Luke hates his father, blaming him for what happened to his mother. However, she also says Hermes will do anything to get into his son’s good graces. They then discuss that they have five days to retrieve the Master Bolt and return it before the deadline. Grover reveals he has been talking to the animals and has agreed to help them escape. Grover gives them Satyr's Sanctuary and lets the animals loose in the middle of the street and the three slip away in the chaos. They spot the Lotus Hotel and Casino and head to it.

Upon arriving in the Lotus, Annabeth warns them not to eat or drink anything as they could become trapped in the hotel for decades or centuries without realizing it. They search the floor for Hermes and Annabeth suggests they split up. However Percy is against it as he is the only one who has never met Hermes. Annabeth goes with him while Grover goes on his own. As Percy and Annabeth walk, he tells her more about his dream, and Annabeth has trouble theorizing why Clarisse would work with Hades. They find Hermes and ask for his help. The god rejects helping them get to the Underworld until they mention Luke and Hermes takes them to talk privately. Hermes says he was warned to stay away from Luke as his presence will only make things worse and still refuses to help. He shows Percy a memory of him being dropped off at boarding school and Annabeth leaves before the god can show her a memory. As Percy gets up to leave, Hermes reveals Poseidon told him to stay away from Luke and describes that being forced to do nothing to stop his children from suffering has made him feel helpless, a feat not easily placed on a god. Hermes says they are low on time as Percy realizes they have been in the Lotus for days, with the deadline being hours away, and that they pump the lotus flowers into the air. Annabeth reveals she stole Hermes's keys and they struggle to remember their third companion. Upon seeing Agustus, they remember Grover and chase after the older satyr. They chase after Augustus and Percy tackles him to the floor, demanding to know where Grover is.

They find Grover playing a virtual reality game and he gets annoyed when they pull off his headset. He does not remember Percy and Annabeth, but eagerly joins them when they mention he is part of their quest. In the garage, Grover- still not remembering the demigods- reveals he was searching for Pan and actually felt the nature god's presence. They find Hermes's car, a taxi, with a note saying they only have to get the cab on the road to get where they want to go. After deciding who will drive, Percy takes the wheel. After hitting support beams, scraping the side against the wall, and almost getting hit by a truck, they make it to the streets and are teleported to Santa Monica Beach.

After getting over the shock, the three exit the cab and Grover remembers Percy and Annabeth. As Grover questions why he forgot more than the demigods, Annabeth says it is because he was alone while they had each other. Percy goes into the Pacific Ocean and prepares to meet his father. However, he is met with the nereid from the Mississippi who informs him that the deadline has passed and Poseidon is preparing for war with Zeus. She tells Percy his father does not blame him and that he is to return to camp. However, he insists to see the quest through and the nereid gives him four pearls so that he, his companions, and his mother can escape the Underworld.

"We Find Out the Truth, Sort Of"

Percy enters Crusty's Water Bed Palace and is greeted by Crusty. The manager tries to get Percy to try one of the waterbeds, but Percy reveals he knows Procrustes's true intentions and Annabeth, wearing her hat, knocks Crusty onto a bed and he is restrained by his own trap. Grover enters and, upon entering Crusty's office. They use the manager’s entrance to the Underworld after brief hesitation.

The three arrive in the Underworld and spot Charon taking new arrivals across the River Styx, allowing Annabeth to pinpoint the main gate to the Underworld. The three push their way through the line, but are stopped by Charon who recognizes that they are alive. Percy fails to appease Charon with golden drachmas and the ferryman summons Cerberus using a dog whistle. As the three run, Cerberus swallows Grover. However, Annabeth manages to climb onto the three-headed dog's side and calm him down by petting Cerberus. Cerberus falls asleep, allowing Grover to crawl out of his mouth. While she keeps Cerberus asleep, Grover flies to the son of Poseidon up the wall using his Winged Shoes. Cerberus wakes up when Annabeth slips, but she manages to distract him with a red rubber ball from Crusty's and jumps onto the wall when Cerberus attempts to follow her throw over it. After he and Grover pull her up, Annabeth throws the ball into the River Styx and the trio watch Cerberus chase after it. Annabeth admits that she remembers the tricks from when her father had a dog when she was little. They spot Hades' Palace in the distance, but Grover lost his pearl when Cerberus swallowed him. Grover insists upon being the one to stay behind since they only have enough pearls for the three of them now, but Percy refuses to leave his friend behind and gives him one of the remaining pearls. Percy reveals that once they get back the Master Bolt and stop the war, he intends to stay behind while Annabeth and Grover leave with his mom. Encountering spirits, Annabeth realizes that the group crossing through the Fields of Asphodel and discovers that the souls are literally rooted in place, bound by the regret about their life choices that they made. Hearing Cerberus nearby, they try to run but find Annabeth rooted to the ground like the spirits. Grover realizes that some kind of regret is trapping her, but she refuses to reveal what it is. Annabeth tells her friends to go while she distracts the dog to buy them some time. Annabeth trusts that the pearls that Poseidon gave them will work and that he and Grover can finish their quest. Reluctantly, they leave the daughter of Athena behind and watch from a distance as she uses her pearl to escape.

As Percy and Grover cross a desert landscape, they realize Cerberus stopped following them, something they find strange. Grover's shoes suddenly start dragging him towards a massive pit, but Percy grabs him and braces them with Riptide until the shoes come off and fly into the pit. Hearing a clanging noise from his backpack, Percy finds the Master Bolt inside. The two are shocked by the discovery and Percy realizes that Ares gave him the bag and is shocked the war god had it the entire time. With the Master Bolt , they plan on returning it to Zeus after freeing Percy's mother.

The boys enter Hades' Palace and, making their to the throne room, Hades greets the demigod and the satyr, but Percy brushes off Hades's hospitality and demands his mother. Hades leads them to a living area where Sally is frozen as a metallic statue. Hades points out that he saved her life when the Minotaur tried to kill Sally. Hades had wanted Percy to come see him and offers Percy a trade for Sally. Percy refuses to give Hades the bolt, telling the god that his plan with Ares had almost worked. However,Hades is confused and could care less about the bolt and says he wants his Helm of Darkness back and does not want a war between the gods. Percy realizes that Kronos is the true mastermind as he held a grudge against the Olympian’s for eons. Hades brushed this aside by saying Kronos is cut up in Tartarus, the same location Grover almost ended up in because of the shoes and where they found the bolt. The son of Poseidon also reveals he has been hearing voices from the pit telling him that he needs to help it take down Olympus. Considering this, Hades suggests that Percy ask him for sanctuary because if Kronos really is planning to somehow emerge from his exile and Percy was his first call, then Percy is not safe. Hades promises to protect Percy, Sally and even Grover if he turn over the Master Bolt in exchange. Hades emphasizes that he now needs the bolt in order to be prepared in case war with Kronos really is coming. Hades tells Percy that this only ends one way, and the only question is how difficult Percy makes it, unknowingly echoing Sally's words to her son from years before. Staring at his mother for a moment, Percy refuses and he instead accepts Hades' first offer: Percy and Grover are going to get Hades' helm back and he will release Sally when they return with it. Telling Sally to hold fast, Percy and Grover use the pearls to escape.

The two wake up on a beach and are greeted by Annabeth. Shortly after, Ares arrive with sword and Percy readies himself for battle.

The Prophecy Comes True

Percy challenges Ares to single combat, with the first to draw blood wins and the war god accepts. Percy mocks Ares by calling Kronos the ringmaster of the plot and saying he saw him in his dreams. Ares says gods do not dream and charges at him. Percy charges at Ares but he is quickly disarmed. Percy summons a wave and knocks Ares to the ground. As Ares crawls to his sword, Percy slashes the god's thigh. Annabeth and Grover go over to Percy as Ares mockingly congratulates the son of Poseidon and declare that he made an enemy of life before vanishing. They spot the Helm of Darkness and Annabeth picks it up.

Percy notices the cabin he and his mother were staying at the night of the Minotaurattack and leads his companions towards it. Once inside, Percy hears the radio talking about ionic disturbances and calls for his mother, but the trio is greeted by Alecto. Percy realizes that Alecto was assigned to retrieve the helm and hands it over, telling her to have Hades return his mother. Alecto takes the helm and wishes him luck on Olympus. Annabeth and Grover try and fail to take Percy out of confronting Zeus, but he is adamant on returning it personally. Annabeth says Zeus would never let him leave alive, but Percy still insists he must try at the very least and Annabeth gives him her necklace.

At the Empire State Building, Percy shows guard the Master Bolt and is granted access to Olympus. Percy confronts Zeus in the Throne Room and returns the Master Bolt. As Percy explains why he failed to return the Master Bolt on time, Percy states Kronos stole it and is plotting against the gods, but Zeus rebuffs him by saying his father is not threat at the moment and focuses on his war against Poseidon and tells Percy to leave. However, Percy says his family is only loyal to Zeus threw fear and they any of them could betray him at any moment. As Zeus is about to strike Percy, Poseidon arrives and saves him by surrendering to his brother. Poseidon begs Zeus to spare Zeus and compares him to Thalia. After conversing in Ancient Greek, Zeus backs down and calls a council of the gods before vanishing. Poseidon talks with Percy for the first time and reveals he knew they were talking about Kronos and reveals his mother taught him Ancient Greek. Percy asks Poseidon if gods can dream, which the god confirms, and asks if he dreams about Sally. Poseidon gives Percy a pearl and sends him to Camp Half-Blood.

At camp, the others congratulate Percy and Annabeth hugs him. They notice Clarisse La Rue in the crowd, but she urges Percy to do nothing for the moment. Percy speaks with Annabeth and Luke about keeping mum on Clarisse as it could start a riot. Luke urges Percy to tell Chiron privately. That night, during the celebrations, Percy and Luke speak in Camp Half-Blood Forest about the prophecy not being fulfilled and, as Percy recites the prophecy, he realizes Luke is the true lightning thief and Luke was using the daughter of Ares as a scapegoat and that he planned for Percy to deliver the Master Bolt to Kronos. Percy backs up as Luke says he is Percy's friend and is trying to recruit him. As Luke pulls out a sword, he opens a rift and tells Percy to come with him. He offers Percy a chance to help him create a renaissance of the Golden Age, but Percy rejects him. Percy draws his sword and reveals he met Hermes. Appearance

Percy is a twelve-year-old boy with curly, dirty blond hair and blue eyes. Percy is slightly taller than the average 12 year old and is much taller than his friend Annabeth.

Personality

I'm used to the world feeling weird to me, like a puzzle with half the wrong pieces. But lately, it all feels different somehow.

–Percy Jackson, "Official Trailer".

Percy appears to be nothing more than a nerdy and sweet pre-teen, which he often is. But he is also very loving and protective to his friends and family, specifically to his mother Sally Jackson. He loves his mother more than anything in the world, as he would gladly march to the Underworld to rescue her from Hades, a very powerful god. He is brave and determined, and while he doesn't like to pick fights, he can often win them when he needs to. He is also impulsive and selfless, as shown when he tried to sacrifice himself at the Gateway Arch. He also seems to be bitter towards his father, Poseidon, who left Sally before Percy was born and has never showed any indication that he cared for Percy. However, he begins to accept Poseidon after his father healed him when he fell into the Mississippi River and sent a Nereid to talk to him. While hearing Hephaestus's life story, he darkly comments on the cruel nature of the gods. His self-sacrificing nature is shown again when he sits on the throne and turns into gold, rather than letting Annabeth do it. He is also feisty and does not take anything lying down, as he nearly told off Ares before his companions stopped him. Percy is also slower than Annabeth and Grover, as he is the last to realize there were two thieves, not just Hades, as they had suspected.

Abilities and Tools

  • ADHD: Percy's supernatural alertness and keen senses that keep him ready for and alive in battle.
  • Dyslexia: Percy's brain is "hard-wired" for reading divine Ancient Greek instead of mortal languages.[2]
  • Swordsmanship: As a Half-Blood, Percy is a naturally talented swordsman. His skills eventually continue to grow as time passes.[1]
  • Dreams: Like most demigods, Percy had dreams that showed him events occurring in the past, present, and future. However, due to his father's unpredictable nature and raw power, Percy's dreams are a lot more potent than those of other demigods.[2][1]
  • Superhuman Durability: Being a demigod son of one of the Big Three, Percy is more durable than regular humans and fellow demigods.[1]
  • Superhuman Strength: Being a demigod son of one of the Big Three, Percy is considerably stronger than a regular mortal and demigod. He easily could rip out the Minotaur's horn.[2]
  • Superhuman Reflexes: Being a demigod son of one of the Big Three, Percy's reflexes are faster than a regular human.[2][1]
  • Superhuman Agility: Being a demigod son of one of the Big Three, Percy is more agile than a regular mortal. He was able to leap on the huge Minotaur neck easily.[2]
  • Will Power: Percy is shown to have great willpower.[2][1][3]
  • Latin: Although a Greek demigod, Percy has shown at least a limited affinity for Latin, a language that is more closely affiliated with the Romans. At Yancy Academy, it was stated to be his best subject, although this was at least partially due to him having Chiron as a teacher.[2]

As a son of Poseidon, Percy is an extremely powerful individual and one of the most powerful demigods in the series.

  • Hydrokinesis: Percy can control great volumes of water to a very high degree, as well as control water in order to make it explode or use it to grab something.[1]
    • Water Empowerment: When in contact with or in the presence of water, Percy gains a disproportionate amount of superhuman clarity, strength, speed, agility, and endurance. While in this state, he was strong enough to snap Clarisse's electric spear "like a twig", effortlessly defeated four children of Ares (including Clarisse) in rapid succession with ease.[1]
    • Vitakinesis (limited): Percy can heal most wounds and when in contact with water, the amount of water and time needed for the healing being proportionate to the severity of the wound.[1]

  • Riptide: A Celestial Bronze sword called Anaklusmos. It is usually kept as a ballpoint pen when not in use and will always return to the user's pocket. When uncapped, it becomes a 3 foot tall double-edged sword.[2][1]
  • Minotaur's Horn: Percy obtained this as a spoil of war when he killed the Minotaur. As one of his few possessions when he first arrived a Camp Half-Blood, the horn became a prized trophy.[1]
  • Winged Shoes: Whose wings spring out when the wearer says "Maia". The shoes were given to Percy by Luke. Percy later gave them to Grover.[3]
  • Annabeth's Yankees Cap: Annabeth's magical cap that allows the wearer to turn invisible. Annabeth briefly lends it to Percy in an attempt to avoid the Furies.[3]
  • Medusa's Head: Percy's second spoil of war collected after he killed Medusa. Percy chooses to send it to the gods on Mount Olympus.[3]

  • Relationships

    Sally Jackson

Percy's loving mother, the two of them are very close as she mostly raised Percy alone. Sally was the only one to really love Percy most of his life. She sacrificed herself to get Percy and Grover to camp. The two would do anything for one another, and when Percy sets out on his quest he has the motive of saving his mother from Hades.

    Annabeth Chase

    Percabeth-Disney+

The two don't exactly start out on the right foot, Percy says that he can't have imagined they would've ever been friends. However along their journey the two grow closer and learn to really trust one another.

    Grover Underwood

    Percy and Grover-Disney+

Grover was Percy's first real friend from Yancy Academy. Grover is assigned as Percy's protector and tasked with getting him safely to camp. Grover is Percy's best and most trusted friend. Percy chose Grover to be part of his team for the quest because he wanted someone he knew for sure would have his back no matter what.

    Luke Castellan

Luke is the first camper Percy meets, and sort of takes him under his wing. Luke shows Percy around, attempts to teach him about camp and life as a demigod, and introduces him to others, including Annabeth. The two become fast friends, and Luke even loans Percy his Winged Shoes from his father for Percy's quest. Percy even tells Luke he considered choosing him for the quest, showing how much he trusted him. However, this changes when Luke is revealed to be the real Lightning Thief. Luke tries to recruit Percy to join his cause, but then duels him after his refusal. Now, they are enemies.

    Gabe Ugliano

Percy's stepfather. The two loathe one another. Gabe and Percy argue often and Percy holds Gabe to the lowest possible standard.

    Chiron

Chiron was watching over Percy long before he even got to camp, starting when he was his teacher Mr. Brunner at Yancy. Chiron takes Percy under his wing and teacher him about his new life, and encourages him to go on his quest and fulfill his destiny.

    Poseidon

Percy has never met his father, who left his mother before he was born. After learning that his father was Poseidon, Percy seems angry and bitter. He often comments that Poseidon does not care about him and is thus reluctant to jump into the Mississippi River, despite Echidna telling him that Poseidon would heal him from the Chimera's poison. However, Percy's opinion of his father seems to improve slightly when Poseidon heals him and sends a Nereid to talk to him. Later, Ares comments to Percy that Poseidon has had many demigod children he did not care for, and Percy was probably no exception. This angers Percy, but his friends drag him away before he can truly infuriate Ares. Percy is visibly disappointed when he misses the chance to meet his father at Santa Monica. Percy meets Poseidon for the first time on Mount Olympus.

    Etymology

    • Perseus is a Greek name derived from the verb (perthein), meaning “to waste, ravage or destroy.” Thus, his name means “the destroyer,” possibly alluding to his father, Poseidon, who is known as the Earth-Shaker and often destroying places due his storms and earthquakes. His mother named Percy after the hero Perseus, as he was the only hero who had a happy ending in the Greek myths.
    • Jackson is a common name of English and Scottish origin meaning "Son of Jack.”
