Persephone is the Greek goddess of the springtime and vegetation. She is the niece and wife of Hades, therefore being the Queen of the Underworld.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief[]

When Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Grover Underwood reach the Underworld and travel to Hades' Palace, Persephone stops the three from being mauled by Hellhounds and takes them to Hades. When she takes the three to her husband, Hades demands the Master Bolt in exchange for Percy’s mother and, after the Master Bolt was revealed to be in a shield given the the son of Poseidon by Luke Castellan, Hades takes the bolt and declares he will rule Olympus. However, she takes the bolt and attacks Hades, knocking him unconscious and erasing his memory of the encounter. Persephone explains that she hates being married to Hades and looks forward to her time away from the Underworld and allows the four to leave. However, they only have three pearls between the four of them and Grover volunteers to stay behind as Percy, Annaneth, and Sally leave.

Persephone resembles a woman with dark hair and eyes and a dark complexion.

Personality[]

Persephone despises her life in the Underworld and is willing to do anything to improve it.

Abilities[]

  • Chlorokinesis: As the Goddess of Springtime and Vegetation, Persephone has absolute control and divine authority over plant-life, but not quite as much as her mother.​​​​​​
    • Plant Creation: Persephone can create plants with magical properties.
  • Season Control (limited to Spring): As the Goddess of Springtime, Persephone has divine authority and absolute control over the season of spring.
  • Geokinesis: As an immortal daughter of Demeter and Queen of the Underworld, Persephone can control and manipulate the earth to certain extent, though to a lesser extent than her mother and husband.
