A pomegranate is a type of fruit. Persephone keeps an orchard of them in her garden in the Underworld.
Description[]
If someone eats one grown in the Underworld, they become trapped there, as happened with Persephone. Children of Hades are immune to this restriction and its unknown if it has the same effect on monsters or not. In the garden itself, the fruit cannot be picked by children of Hades, possibly because of their immunity to its power, but they can touch them in the greater Underworld. As a result, Nico di Angelo and Will Solace conclude that only Persephone or potential victims of the pomegranates can actually touch them. Children of Hades are able to use pomegranate seeds to enter a Death Trance.

The Nico di Angelo Adventures[]
The Sun and the Star: A Nico di Angelo Adventure[]
When Nico tells the story of his first trip to Tartarus to Will and the troglodytes, he reveals that Nemesis had been the one who had given Nico the pomegranate seeds that he'd used after being captured by the Gigantes.
In exchange for his silence, Menoetes demands that Nico and Will steal him flowers from Persephone's Garden. Breaking into the garden, Nico decides to steal three pomegranates, only to discover that Will is the only one capable of holding them. The two are caught by Persephone while escaping, but the goddess tells Will to keep the fruit as a gift after a talk with the demigod.
Returning to Menoetes' farm, Nico and Will present the pomegranates to the demon who eats one and intends to give another to his boyfriend Geryon. Although unsure if the fruit's power will tie them to the Underworld permanently, Menoetes is content as he and Geryon have nothing left on the surface. In gratitude for their kindness, in particular since Nico has a bad history with Geryon, Menoetes tells the two demigods what he knows about Bob's capture by Nyx.
