Portugal is a country in the Iberian peninsula in Western Europe.
- The Portuguese royal family at one point resettled in Brazil due to a military uprising, with Pedro VI of Portugal becoming emperor of Brazil from 1822-1831. After heading back to Portugal, his son became Emperor Pedro II of Brazil. His descendants still reside in Brazil.
- The country’s name is derived from Portus Cale, a town in the northern part of the country, is derived from the latinized version of the CeltIc word Callaici.
