Percy Jackson

Percy Jackson, a demigod that has been a leader of several significant quests.

A quest is a mission usually taken by up to three people to accomplish a goal. Every quest comes with a significant prophecy with it.

Description[]

At Camp Half-Blood, a quest can only be given if a camper receives a prophecy from the Oracle. A quest is also one of the few times that a camper will be allowed to leave the safety of the camp, unless a demigod wants to live in the mortal world during the school year.

At Camp Jupiter, the campers must also have a prophecy in order to attain a quest. However, unlike Camp Half-Blood, the prophecy is given by the Auguries by reading the stuffing of plush toys. After a prophecy is given, the matter is then brought before the Senate of New Rome to decide the details, including companions, strategy, and even what supplies will be given to the questers. Another qualification is that the leader of a quest must have the rank of a Centurion or higher.

There is an Olympian quest board where demigods can advertise their services in quests for the gods.

A rule for quest completion is that at the end of each quest, the demigod in charge must white-glove deliver the item that they have recovered, meaning that it can't simply be shipped via Hermes Express. In the case of Ganymede's Chalice, the god is unable to simply take it from Percy despite his impatience and the time crunch that they are under, and Percy has to physically hand it over to him.

Leader and Companions[]

Annabeth Chase-Viria

Annabeth Chase, a leader of a quest who brought three people with her.

The person who receives the prophecy is normally considered the leader of the quest. This person is allowed to pick two companions to go with them and help on the quest. However, this person is not required to pick two companions, and can only pick one or none depending on their preference. Sometimes the companions are picked or suggested for the person.

In The Sun and the Star: A Nico di Angelo Adventure, both Nico di Angelo and Will Solace received the prophecy for their quest, but Nico was the leader of the quest. In addition, while the quest started out with just two members, Nico eventually realized that Iapetus was himself their third member after they rescued from Nyx and he named Small Bob the quest's fourth member, although both Nico and Will wondered if Small Bob actually counted. In this case, the quest was made up of two demigods, a Titan and a skeleton cat rather than being made up of just demigods or demigods and a satyr as is typical for a quest.

Exceptions[]

The leader can also pick more than two people to join them, but this is considered dangerous as three is a sacred number. Any more than three on a quest could result in a catastrophe, including a member of the quest going missing, dying, or the quest failing. An example of this can be shown during the Quest for Artemis, where the total number of questers was five. By the end of the quest however, one member died and another went missing, who was later confirmed to be dead. Another example is during the Quest for Daedalus, where the total was originally four. During the quest, Grover Underwood and Tyson were separated from Annabeth and Percy Jackson. Percy was then separated from Annabeth, but found his way back to camp. Before going to try again, they picked up a mortal girl named Rachel Elizabeth Dare to help, and later a son of Hades named Nico di Angelo, bringing the number back up to three and later to four. During the Quest for Iapetus, Iapetus himself brought the quest, which had started with just Nico and Will Solace, up to three as Nico later realized. After Small Bob complained, Nico named him as their fourth quest member, although both Nico and Will wondered if a ghost cat actually counted as a quest member.

While normally a demigod has to have a prophecy to leave camp, during times of war or danger, a group can leave to complete a mission. These missions however are not considered as actual quests. There are also times when a camper will go mad after receiving a prophecy from the Oracle, but it is unknown what happens to the quest if this occurs.

Letters of Recommendation[]

Due to the Pact of the Big Three, their demigod children born after the oath, at least their Greek children, are ineligible for New Rome University as they are never meant to exist. Zeus agrees to allow Percy Jackson admission if he completes three quests for the gods and gets letters of recommendation from each god that he completes one for. However, they all have to be new quests and Poseidon isn't able to give Percy one due to bias as his father. Percy is also not allowed to approach the gods for a quest, and they must come to him themselves. Percy solicits quests from the gods using an ad that he places with the help of Poseidon on the Olympian quest board. Poseidon also has his servants put up flyers all over Olympus for his son.

Unlike typical quests, these smaller quests don't require a prophecy, and Percy intends to keep them a secret from other demigods. While Annabeth and Grover act as his quest mates, they don't receive a prophecy for this smaller quest and, once the Quest for Ganymede's Chalice is over, Percy tells Annabeth that he doesn't intend to tell anyone at camp about it, although several of the gods know, including Poseidon, Hebe, Iris, and Athena.

Eudora, a Nereid assigned by Poseidon to help Percy, reveals that he could've applied for dual credit due to the presence of multiple gods being involved in the quest and gotten the remaining letters that he had needed from Hebe and Iris. However, this only applies if Percy asks the gods in question ahead of time for the dual credit and he cannot return to them afterwards for it, even though Percy was still in the middle of helping Iris with a task that she had given to him as a part of his quest. The university added a tiny paragraph about dual credit to their brochure with an asterisk and an even tinnier disclaimer reading "this applies to Percy Jackson."
