Percy Jackson, a demigod that has been a leader of several significant quests.

A quest is a mission usually taken by up to three people to accomplish a goal. Every quest comes with a significant prophecy with it.

Description

At Camp Half-Blood, a quest can only be given if a camper receives a prophecy from the Oracle. A quest is also one of the few times that a camper will be allowed to leave the safety of the camp, unless a demigod wants to live in the mortal world during the school year.

At Camp Jupiter, the campers must also have a prophecy in order to attain a quest. However, unlike Camp Half-Blood, the prophecy is given by the Auguries by reading the stuffing of plush toys. After a prophecy is given, the matter is then brought before the Senate of New Rome to decide the details, including companions, strategy, and even what supplies will be given to the questers. Another qualification is that the leader of a quest must have the rank of a Centurion or higher.

Leader and Companions

Annabeth Chasw

Annabeth Chase, a leader of a quest who brought three people with her.

The person who receives the prophecy is normally considered the leader of the quest. This person is allowed to pick two companions to go with them and help on the quest. However, this person is not required to pick two companions, and can only pick one or none depending on their preference. Sometimes the companions are picked or suggested for the person.

Exceptions

The leader can also pick more than two people to join them, but this is considered dangerous as three is a sacred number. Any more than three on a quest could result in a catastrophe, including a member of the quest going missing, dying, or the quest failing. An example of this can be shown during the Quest for Artemis, where the total number of questers was five. By the end of the quest however, one member died and another went missing, who was later confirmed to be dead. Another example is during the Quest for Daedalus, where the total was originally four. During the quest, Grover Underwood and Tyson were separated from Annabeth and Percy Jackson. Percy was then separated from Annabeth, but found his way back to camp. Before going to try again, they picked up a mortal girl named Rachel Elizabeth Dare to help, bringing the number back to three.

While normally a demigod has to have a prophecy to leave camp, during times of war or danger, a group can leave to complete a mission. These missions however are not considered as actual quests. There are also times when a camper will go mad after receiving a prophecy from the Oracle, but it is unknown what happens to the quest if this occurs.
