The Quest for Ganymede's Chalice is a quest undertaken by Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Grover Underwood to find Ganymede's stolen chalice. Ganymede presented the quest to Percy in order to receive one of the letters of recommendation that he needs to attend New Rome University.
The Chalice of the Gods[]
As Percy is ineligible to to attend New Rome University due to being born of a broken oath, he will be allowed to attend if he can get three recommendation letters by completing three quests. Poseidon puts up an add featuring Percy’s services and, and Ganymede learns of it, he tasks Percy to find his chalice. Percy accepts and is aided by Annabeth and Grover. Ganymede suggests they start by looking into the former cup bearers, Hebe and Iris.
The three go to Hebe's arcade, Hebe Jeebies, to question the goddess about the chalice. However she becomes insulted and turns the three into eight year olds. After complaining, they are chased by flesh eating chickens and, after grabbing a chick, barricade themselves in the Karaoke Bar and sing to appease the goddess. Hebe is not impressed, but turns into an infant due to the chick being in the room. They get rid of the chick once Hebe agrees to turn them back into teenagers. Once she does, Hebe says she does not have the chalice and wants to see Ganymede fail. She advises them to see Iris at a farmers market on Saturday.
Annabeth contacts Blanche, a daughter of Iris, to introduce them to the goddess and they go to the farmers market. Iris does not have the chance and expresses pity for Ganymede. The goddess agrees to look around for the chalice if they wash her messengers staff in the River Elisson. They agree but Iris fails to tell them the location.
Percy asks his guidance counselor, Eudora, about the river’s location and she reluctantly sends him to Yonkers, the general location of the river. He finds a possible entrance along the Saw Mill River and returns the next day with his friends. They find the river with Horned Serpens in the water and Percy and Annabeth and to a spot clear of snakes They clean the staff, but are caught by Elisson, the god of the river. The god tries to smother Percy in sludge, but he takes control of the water and scares the god. Annabeth comforts the traumatized god and he lets them leave. Percy distracts the serpent as Annabeth helps Grover. Percy is soon cornered, but the staff takes him to his friends.
Percy and Annabeth return the staff and Iris avoids giving them the information until they insist. She mentions someone named Gary has the chalice and says it is in Greenwich Village. She gives them pure honey to track it before warning that Zeus is planning a party to honor his mother in two weeks. Percy reports that Gary stole the chalice to Eudora, who vanishes before telling Percy to abandon his goals if he values his life. At a swim meet, Grover tells Percy he heard nature spirits are leaving Washington Square Park.
On Monday morning, the three head to Washington Square Park and find the chalice thief- Geras, the god of old age. Geras reveals he took it to punish Ganymade for becoming immortal and agrees to give it back if Percy can force him to take a knee in a wrestling match. Percy agrees and things go poorly for the Son of Poseidon before he thinks of how great it would be to grow old with his friends and loved one and hugs Geras. The god is moved and gives Percy the chalice before leaving. Just then, Ganymede sends an urgent message that Zeus is currently hosting brunch and he needs the chalice.
Annabeth reluctantly hands over her Yankees Cap and goes to school as Percy and Grover go to the Empire State Building. Grover tells Percy to find Naomi and he distracts the guards while Percy sneaks onto Olympus. He makes his way to Zeus's palace and, with the help of Naomi, sneaks into the kitchen. Another cloud nymph named Barbara sneaks Percy over to Ganymede in a cloth covered cart. Athena catches him, but does not reveal his presence and has Ganymede take the cart to the kitchen and Percy returns the chalice. Ganymade gives Percy a blank sheet of paper and has him dictate his own letter. Percy gets to school late, but Poseidon gives the school an excuse. The sea god praises Percy for embracing old age and Percy heads to class, filling in Eudora along the way.
