The Quest for the Physician's Cure is a quest undertaken by the Seven to create the Physician's Cure in order to resurrect whichever member of the group dies defeating Gaea.

The Heroes of Olympus[]

The Blood of Olympus[]

When Leo Valdez, Percy Jackson, Hazel Levesque, and Frank Zhang capture the goddess Nike in Olympia, she warns that one of the four present will die battling Gaea. She also tells them of the physician's cure and the necessary ingredients, but says it is too dangerous. Frank replies that he likes cheating death and that they will proceed to find the ingredients.

The Seven's first stop is at Pylos to seek out the Poison of Pylos with the help of Frank's shapeshifting relatives, descendants of Periclymenus. Frank's relatives provide him with the Pylosian mint and directs them to Sparta for the second ingredient, the heartbeat of the chained god.

In Sparta, Piper McLean and Annabeth Chase descend into the temple of fear, or rather the god Phobos who is Piper's half-brother. Guarding the statue containing the second ingredient is the Giant Mimas who was born to slay Hephaestus. Eventually, the two are able to defeat Mimas with the help of Phobos by relying on their emotions rather than thinking their way out. Once Mimas is dead, Piper is able to release the makhai and gain the ability to summon them when needed.

Next, the Seven travel to Delos to seek out the Curse of Delos with the help of Artemis and Apollo. Although Apollo is at first unenthusiastic about helping them, Leo manages to convince the god to help by creating the Valdezinator and promising to teach Apollo how to use it. Apollo gives Leo one of the daisies covering the island, the Curse of Delos and confirms what Leo has deduced needs to be done to defeat Gaea.

Having gathered all of the needed ingredients, the Seven travel to Asclepius' office where the god agrees to create the Physician's Cure for them. Once it is done, Leo, having deduced that he must sacrifice himself to defeat Gaea, convinces Hazel and Frank to help him trick the others. Leo pretends to give Piper the cure while actually keeping it for himself, Hazel having manipulated the Mist to make it seem like Piper was given the cure. Leo later puts the potion into the inner workings of the Argo II.

After Leo's death scattering Gaea, Frank and Hazel reveal the truth about Leo's trick with the Physician's Cure. The Seven and their friends are devastated, believing the quest to have all been for nothing as there was no one with Leo when he died to administer the cure. Although Nico di Angelo senses that Leo had died, he senses that there was something different about it, but dismisses the idea that Leo had somehow survived as there was no one around to use the cure to bring him back to life.

Unbeknownst to anyone else, Leo had outfitted Festus with the Physician's Cure and the ability to give it to him. Festus injects Leo with the Physician's Cure, successfully resurrecting him.

The Trials of Apollo[]

The Hidden Oracle[]

While discussing Leo with the now-mortal Apollo, Will mentions Leo dying to take down Gaea and Apollo recalls Leo seeking out the Physician's Cure on Delos. Apollo asks if Leo had been planning on sacrificing himself all along which Will and Nico confirm, revealing that they got a message from Leo revealing his resurrection a few days after he returned to life.
