The following next night he, along with Hearthstone and
Blitzen, sneak back to Midgard with the help of his new hall mates. Magnus and Hearth search the son of Frey’s corpse to see if it is there but come up empty-handed.

They realize that the sword was dragged out to sea by the current in the Charles River and possibly in possession of Ran. They head to the docks and ask a frost giant to take them out to Jotunheim waters. He agrees to take the demigods but not Blitz and Hearth. As Sam and Magnus head out they arrive in Jotunheim waters and throw their bait, an ox head, into the sea. They soon get a bit and reel in Jormungand, the world serpent, and Sam’s half-brother. The jotunn urges them to cut the line but they refuse until the sea goddess shows up. When she does they demand the sword, she agrees if she can have Magnus. They refuse and the son of Frey offers his newer sword for Sumarbrander. Ran reluctantly agrees but says she will kill Magnus if she sees him again. They head back and Sam heads home for the night.
The three stop at the Boston Public Library for and night and they each have a conversation with Utgard-Loki, who reveals himself as the pidgin from before, tells them that Fenris Wolf will break his bongs in a week and start Ragnarok. They are told to go to Nidavellir to have a new rope constructed. Sam meets up with the rest of them and they head to the duck sculptures to head to the dwarf homeworld. However, they are spotted by Gunilla, captain of the Valkyries and Magnus’s hall mates and ordered to surrender. Things are going smoothly until Ratatosk arrives and Blitz and Magnus and separated from Sam and Hearth. Magnus and Blitz end up in Folkvanger and are greeted by Blitz’s mother Freya. She asks them to go to Nidavellir for her and get a new pair of earrings. Blitz grudgingly accepts to get back on track and they reach Nidavellir.
After arriving at Nabbi’s bar they find Sam and Hearth. They are greeted and mocked by Junior who challenges them to a crafting contest, Magnus accepts on Blitz’s behalf without realizing the loser is decapitated. The next morning they meet for the contest and Magnus and Hearth defend Blitz from sabotage and the son of Frey gives Blitz a pep talk. The content ends with Blitzen winning and all Junior’s work being useless molten puddles. He gives Blitzeb the rope and earrings. Just then Sam arrives and Junior calls her out as a shapeshifter. The four are chased until Sumbarsaber, who chooses to go by Jack, is revealed to be sentient and helps fight off the mob. Blitzed suddenly vanishes and the rest up into a raging river.
Magnus, Sam, and Hearth wake up in Jotunheim and meet Otis, one of Thor’s goats. He says Thor needs his help and they follow. After slaying the giantess attacking Thor he invites them to dinner and asks them to find Mjolnir at the castle of Geirrod. Blitz returns and they climb in the morning. After summoning an offspring of Sleipnir they notice Gunilla is in a cage and request guest rights from the giant’s daughters. After the giantesses admit to trying to kill them Jack scrambles their brains. Their father comes home drunk and offers to play catch with them by throwing hot coals at them. When he learns they killed his daughters he inadvertently caves in the roof, crushing himself. Gunilla is freed and tries to apprehend them. However, Sam hits her emergency band and sends her to the medical bay at Valhalla. Thor arrives to claim his weapon, which is really his staff, and send the others to the place they need to be the most.
Magnus is sent to Bunker Hill and talks with Hel about reuniting with his mother in Helheim if he gives her Jack, but he refuses and is then sent to Malcolm X Middle School. Sam is sent home to be grounded by her grandparents before being sent to Malcolm X Middle School. Blitz was sent to Nidavellir and congratulated by his fellow dwarves. Hearth was sent to the New England Aquarium where he met up with Blitz. The two groups meet at the harbor and find a passage to Lyngvi, the island the world is imprisoned on. They reach the wolf and are soon greeted by Gunilla and her posy. Magnus’s hall mates side with him and Surt and other fire giants soon arrive. A fight breaks out and Fenris is cut free, but Jack and Magnus manage to re-tie him. Guinilla and two other Valkyries die of their injuries.
