The Red Queen was a Mayan noblewoman from about the year 600.
History[]

King Pakal, her husband
Tz'akbu Ajaw was born as the very first Fire Keeper. Hurakan made her from a piece of fire to protect the magic of the Maya.
Tz'aakb'u Ajaw was the wife of K'inich Janaab' Pakal, the king of Palenque. She came from a a neighboring city to marry him in 626 AD. Archaeologists have deduced that Ajaw and Pakal had three or four sons. Two of these sons, K'inich Kan Bahlam II and K'inich Kan Joy Chitam II, became subsequent rulers of Palenque, but left no heirs. Tz'aakb'u Ajaw died in 672 AD, eleven years before Pakal's death in 683.
In 1994, Fanny Lopez Jimenez and other archaeologists found her tomb and have been trying to figure out who she was ever since. Arnoldo Gonzalez Cruz gave her the name of Red Queen due her remains and the objects inside her sarcophagus were covered with bright red cinnabar powder when her tomb was discovered.[2]

During their conversation she kept talking to a torch.

Trivia[]
- Candidates for the Red Queen's identity were Yohl Ik'nal, Sak K'uk, and K'inuuw Mat. They were King Pakal's grandmother, mother, and daughter-in-law respectively. Archaeological evidence, epigraphic data for dates, and a process of deduction narrowed down the candidates to Sak K'uk and Tz'akbu Ajaw, but a DNA test in 2012 confirmed no relationship between Pakal and the Red Queen. And so many archaeologists believed that Tz'akbu Ajaw was the most likely candidate for the Red Queen.[3]
- As mentioned by Ren Santiago, the tomb the Red Queen's husband, King Pakal, has been has been the subject of ancient astronaut hypotheses. However, the image also seems to depicted the Ceiba World Tree.[4]
