–Savannah to Nico on opening up in The Court of the Dead. | ||
Savannah is a Roman legacy, a descendant of Minerva.
History[]
Savannah was born into a family who descended from Minerva. Her parents were potters who specialized in magic pottery designs to trap spirits. Once day, a group of empousai found out about them and attacked the studio. They spared Savannah, but locked her parents in a kiln, cooking them alive.
When she was old enough, she was brought to the Wolf House and survived Lupa's training. She made her way south to the San Francisco Bay Area and found Camp Jupiter. She was accepted into the legion as a probatio in the Second Cohort.
The Nico di Angelo Adventures[]
The Court of the Dead[]
When Nico di Angelo and Will Solace arrive at the Caldecott Tunnel, Savannah and Yazan greet the two. They are thrown off by Nico's Cacodemons, but the son of Hades explains they are with him and they back down. Savannah starts to complain about something, but Yazan cuts her off. The two escort their visitors to Camp Jupiter and alert Hazel Levesque to their arrival. Once the praetor greets the visitors, she sends the two back to their posts.
The following day, she is assigned to spare with the mythics, being paired with Arielle. However, during training she has a panic attack and is escorted to the infirmary by Will.
The day after, she tries sparring with Arielle again. Things start out well, until Savannah has another panic attack and attacks Arielle. Nico gets between the two as the probatio accuses Arielle of killing her parents, believing all empousai are evil. Arielle calls her out for this, but Nico tells her to leave. Arielle does so and says she will be treated better by her pressures. Once Nico calms her down, he takes the girl to the infirmary.
The following morning, Savannah has received word that Arielle has gone missing and, as she is going through practice drills, Nico asks to speak with her. When they are alone, Savannah insists she is not behind the disappearance. She tells Nico she knows Arielle is not responsible for her parents' deaths and reveals she is a legacy of Minerva, inheriting the goddess's skill for pottery. Savannah explains how her parents made jars to trap spirits and, when the empousa found out, they attacked the pottery studio and cooked her parents in a kiln. Nico tells her how his own mother died and Savannah agrees to try harder to see the mythics as her allies. When the son of Hades notices her bracelet, Savannah tells Nico that she invented a way to make Iris Messages more accessible and user friendly before rejoining her cohort.
After Quinoa goes missing, she volunteers to be part of a stakeout to catch the perpetrator behind the disappearances, overseeing the tesserae communication system. She and Deion join Nico and Will, as well as Nico's cacodemons, in acting as lookouts while the praetors and the Second and Fifth Cohorts patrol the grounds, As they watch, Savannah states that she feels guilty about her treatment towards Arielle and sincerely wants the empousa to come back. Nico tells the group about him blaming a friend for his sister's death for months before realizing the friend was not at fault. The legacy of Minerva then tells Nico and Will that the legion has been talking about them as they are one of the few to return from Tartarus. Just then, the cacodemons get worked up and the tesserae bracelets glow all at once before a voice sounds from them, teasing the listeners before mentioning Hazel. Realizing the daughter of Pluto is in trouble, Nico and Will go to help her.
After learning that Asterion has been taken and Hazel is a target as well, everyone at Camp Jupiter begins to take the disappearances seriously. A few even pledge to keep the remaining mythics safe. The following day, the plans are finalized. Nico, Will, Hazel and the mythics will spend the night in the vault as Frank and a few legionnaires stand guard outside, Savannah volunteers for the position. All participants will have a cacodemon with them to serve as an early warning signal. Once night falls, the plan goes into motion. After it is revealed that Laverna has taken the mythics, Nico, Will, and Hazel go into San Francisco to try and save the mythics, however Hazel is taken away Savannah volunteers for and is approved to be part of a rescue mission.
In the Field of Mars, Nico, Will, Frank, and Orcus watch as she, Yazan, Deion, Lucius, and Lavinia run around trying to catch the cacodemons when the son of Apollo pulls out chocolate for the cacodemons, much to the annoyance of the legionnaires. After Frank passes out harnesses and carries for the cacodemons Nico explains that, while the cacodemons heighten the emotion they embody when in physical contact with someone, they also enhance awareness to see beyond the Mist. A few of the legionaries are confused until Savannah picks up her cacodemon and demonstrates. After she puts it down, Nico asks to speak with her alone. Once they are far enough away, Nico asks her if she is okay. The legacy of Minerva tells him that she is getting better, but still thinks about her parents often. Nico explains that those feelings will always be there, but over time will become easier to cope with. He also tells her to focus on the good memories rather than the bad. Savannah rejoins the others as Nico goes to speak with someone.
After Will's mother arrives at camp to tell them she knows where Hazel and the mythics are, Savannah joins them. Once everyone is gathered, Naomi drives Nico, Will, Frank, Lavinia, Yazan, Deion, Lucius, Savannah, Semele, Johan, and Orcus to the enclosure as the demigods and mythics try to get a handle of their enchanted emotions due to the cacodemons. Once the group reach Golden Gate Park, they notice how densely packed the enclosure has become since Naomi found it, as well as the judges and some of their followers. The group notice slivers of fog moving around that Johan points out is the Mist, which they should not be able to see. Naomi leaves and the group heads toward the enclosure. As Savannah and her allies begin to charge, the Mist breaks. Everyone’s senses are heightened because of the cacodemons and they start to burn. In an attempt to save everyone, the son of Hades summons all the cacodemons to him, absorbing them. While everyone is saved, Nico is greatly weakened by the act and is near death as everyone fears the worst. Relinquishing her vow, Semele asks Nico for permission to possess him so that she can save him. Nico agrees and Semele possesses him, restoring his strength. Everyone is relieved as the group watches as two gods appear and, after getting rid of Mary Tudor, Tantalus, and Laverna, Pirithous traps them. Not long after they change into battle. After the mass illusion stops and Pirithous is captured, Savannah and her allies gather around the judge. After Dolus and Apate convince the judge to release him followers, everyone discusses what to do with Pirithous when Hecate arrives. Everyone bows to the Goddess of Magic as Pirithous explains his actions to Hecate. The goddess appears to applaud his actions as she summons a large sheet of rock, calling it a throne. Everyone stays quiet as the judge crawls to the rock and is fused with it before being sent to the Fields of Asphodel. The legacy of Minerva watches as Hecate extracts Semele from Nico and returns her to her physical form. Semele then thanks her allies before going to see someone. Hecate thanks the demigods and mythics before leaving. Arielle and Savannah become close as the campers and mythics take the train back.
Later that day, everyone helps put together a farewell dinner for Nico and Will at the Via Praetoria for their farewell dinner. As they eat, Savannah informs them that she, Arielle, Yazan, and Deion will be going on a quest to find the empousa who killed the legacy of Minerva's parents. Nico wishes them luck and they share a long hug goodbye.
