History
Shani is a keen devotee of Lord Shiva, he was always absorbed in deep thoughts about him. His father, Surya, arranged him to marry Dhamini, the goddess of dance and art. One day, Dhamini came to ask Shani what she thought of her appearance. But Shani was in deep thought and didn't even bother to look at her. She got so annoyed that she cursed him so that whoever he were to gaze at would be devastating, that is why his eyes always looked down. After a long while, this cursed was lifted when Shani accepted the title of the Lord of Justice.[1]
