–Sherman Yang, in the Hidden Oracle

Sherman Yang is a Greek demigod son of Ares. He is the current Head Counselor of the Ares' Cabin, after taking the position from his sister, Clarisse La Rue. He is the current boyfriend of Miranda Gardiner.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians[]

The Demigod Files[]

In The Stolen Chariot, Clarisse La Rue mentions that her brothers are messing with her. Percy instantly thinks of Sherman and Mark, which possibly means they are the most troublesome of her siblings.

The Trials of Apollo[]

The Hidden Oracle[]

Sherman replaced his sister Clarisse La Rue as the counselor of Ares' Cabin, due to the fact that she was at the University of Arizona. When Meg McCaffrey arrived at Camp Half-Blood, she kicked him in the crotch.

At dinner the next night, Sherman sat alone at the Ares table, since he was the only one there and his half-brother, Ellis Wakefield, was missing. When Connor Stoll asked if he should shove Apollo's head into the toilet, and Sherman said they don’t do that to all newbies, only the newbies who deserve it. Chiron thanked Sherman and said he is glad he isn’t giving the god of archery a swirly. Sherman glanced at Meg, than glanced back at Connor, who grinned at Sherman, making Apollo realize they are trying to prank Meg. After Chiron welcomed her, Sherman stood up and said that Meg needed a special welcome and asked what Connor thought, and Connor agreed, saying maybe the canoe lake. Sherman than stood up and walked towards Meg while Connor threw a net over her, but they both got attacked by Peaches. Sherman rolled over and groaned with a gash on his forehead. He later bowed in respect for Meg when she was claimed by Demeter.

The next day, Sherman took archery lessons with Apollo, Kayla Knowles and Holly and Laurel Victor. Sherman began walking trancelike into the woods, and Apollo and Kayla went to get him. Apollo grabbed his arm, and a dazed Sherman said that he must find Ellis and Miranda Gardiner, who he started dating a week before. Sherman kept fighting Apollo so he had to lie and say Miranda was near, and he stopped fighting, making his eyes roll back until they were white. Apollo then lied and said he was Ellis, and Sherman sobbed and said he loved him. When they led him out, he returned to his normal state and shook them off, asking what happened. He didn’t believe he went into the woods and denied anything he said. He also said that he wouldn’t mention Cecil Markowitz, because he didn’t stand him. He said what he did was probably due to a brain injury from Meg, and then told them not to mention it again, or else they'll make him eat quivers, because he didn’t want people questioning his self control and he had the race to think about. Sherman did admit though that he wanted to know where Ellis and Miranda were. The lunch bell rang, and Sherman said he would destroy them in the three-legged death race.

During the three legged death race, Sherman was partnered up with Malcolm Pace. Before the race, Sherman cracked his knuckles and asked where the starting line was.

Sherman defended Camp half blood in defeating the Colossus Neronis, and he used a chariot to circle around the statue with Alice Miyazawa and Julia Feingold. Nico and Will shadow travelled to him convinced him and the girls to disembark, then took the chariot. As soon as Nico and Will told Apollo this, Sherman screamed from the distance, "I'll get you, di Angelo!" Sherman and the girls later stumbled over to Apollo and Sherman said he appreciated him for freeing Ellis and Miranda, but he would kill him later for damaging the chariot. He also asked why the Colossus was sneezing. Sherman asked what happened in a voice of childlike wonder what happened after he sneezed his head off. He was affected by the hay fever epidemic with the rest of camp and he was convinced to not take revenge against Nico or Apollo, though Apollo suggested that he was keeping his options open for later.

He later punched Leo Valdez along with the rest of camp, and was reunited with his girlfriend, Miranda.

The Tower of Nero[]

He is seen outside his cabin telling new campers to beware of land mines. Later when Apollo asks him about Nero's Tower, he explains that it is heavily fortified and if there were any hidden entrances, they would be heavily guarded. He also explains that it is possible for Nero to burn New York if he had enough Greek Fire and sent it through the pipes.

A few days later, he and the other campers assault Nero's Tower. During the fight he throws a Germanus off of a balcony. After the fight with the Germani and the mortals, he is assumed negotiating a division of the spoils of war with the troglodytes.

Camp Half-Blood Confidential[]

Ellis was skeptical of Sherman becoming head counselor of Ares cabin, and wondered if his Ares qualities were enough to lead the cabin, and was secretly studying him to see if he had an Achilles heel. Ever since Sherman became head counselor, they scored poorly on daily camp inspection. Sherman and his siblings got duty was getting the combat arena ready, and Sherman ordered his siblings to take a knee. He explained he was running a relay race, which confused Ellis, and that his siblings were there as observers, since it wouldn’t be fair to the other competitors. Ellis wanted to run away until he noticed a twinkle in his eye. Sherman explained whoever finished the race gets to fire the t shirt gun that night. Will, Miranda, Billie Ng, Damien White, and Cecil volunteered, and it turned out the relay race were the chores the Ares Cabin had to do. Sherman started the race and Miranda won, and Sherman grabbed her in a hug, blushing and grinning sheepishly. After this, Ellis and the Ares cabin had nothing but respect for Sherman as head counselor.

Later, Sherman hung out on the beach with Butch Walker, Paolo Montes, Valentina Diaz, Connor, and Nyssa Barrera, and talked about the camp's curses. Sherman asked Nyssa if she had any good curse stories and she began telling one about Harmonia’s necklace and James Dean, a son of Aphrodite, and his forbidden romance. Sherman was skeptical about the car accident being cursed, and said car accidents happen all the time, and questioned where the car was now.

Appearance[]

Sherman is described to be a "physically imposing" muscle-bound guy with a nasty red zigzag scar that covered his forehead and cheek, and ran down the side of face.

Personality[]

Sherman is described in Camp Half-Blood Confidential to be a typical Ares kid, a bloodthirsty, violent killing machine on the surface. However, it is also shown that he can be very manipulative and cunning if he wants to, when he tricks several campers into doing the Ares' Cabin chores for him and his siblings. Sherman possibly has a caring side, since he is shown to be concerned over Miranda.

Abilities[]

  • ADHD: Like most demigods, he possesses inborn supernatural battle reflexes and senses that he uses to analyze the fighting style of his opponent.
  • Fighting Skills: He is quite skilled with weapons.
  • Dyslexia: His brain is "hardwired" for Ancient Greek instead of modern languages.
