Tristan Strong, his cousin.

During a family reunion in New Orleans, he pesters Tristan during a tour of the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum, telling his cousin various medical facts. Afterwards he expresses his desire to go to a certain restaurant for dinner that gives whoever can finish an entire supreme pizza a spatula, he expresses this desire to his grandmother.

He later sees Tristan and a girl run past as he is waiting in line for a beignet and follows them to Artillery Park They attack him but he fends them off with his spatula. He questions them and they move towards the dingy. Terrence reluctantly gives them his spatula if he goes with them. They struggle against the current but make it to the side of the barge. Terrence is tasked with watching the dinghy as Seraphine and his cousin board the barge. After a while he gets scared and boards to look for them. He finds them after they open a shipping container and find Gum Baby. Tristan introduces a stunned Terrence to Gum Baby as she mentions how she, Ayanna, and Junior were separated by a haint, and Terrence asks it it walked on four legs. When Tristan asks why he thinks that, he says it's close by them. Tristan and Gum Baby fight the haint and it transforms into a spider like creature made out of wood with a hammer head that he recognizes it as a Coffle, a device used to shackle slaves together as they were moved to the fields to work. The Coffle starts to attack him as Tristan keeps attacking in a blind rage until nothing is left. The others stair at him and Gum Baby says his hands are on fire. Tristan starts to panic and accidentally sets the barge on fire. He and others flee just as a wave spontaneously puts out the fire and Mami Wata appears.

He is shacken by the experience and brought aboard the River Queen, Mami Wata's ship, as he is comforted by his grandparents while Tristan explains everything to the gods of Alke and MidPass. After they say Tristan is being sent back to Chicago for his own safety, Terrence's grandparents escort him out.
