I had the strangest dream. […] Like I was dying.

–Thalia to Percy after her resurrection in Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters

Thalia Grace is a Greek demigod and the daughter of Zeus. After she was mortally wounded by attacking monsters, she was transformed into a pine tree on Half-Blood Hill, which still stands as the official border for Camp Half-Blood to this day. She was later resurrected by the Golden Fleece under the manipulations of Kronos in an attempt to control the Great Prophecy.

History[]

Due to being born against the Pact of the Big Three decreeing that the Big Three can't have any more demigod children, Thalia was targeted by monsters. Grover Underwood attempted to lead Thalia, Annabeth Chase and Luke Castellan to Camp Half-Blood, but they were chased by various monsters, including Cyclopses. As Luke and Annabeth helped an injured Grover, Thalia bravely made a stand to protect her friends, injuring one Cyclops.

As Thalia attempted to follow her friends, a Cyclops grabbed her and threw Thalia, causing her to land hard, hitting her head on a rock. Mortally wounded and dying, Thalia was transformed into a pine tree by Zeus in order to preserve her spirit. Thalia's tree put up a magical border around camp, protecting all demigods living within from monster attacks and preventing the two Cyclopes that had killed Thalia from reaching her friends.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters[]

Seven years after her death, Thalia's Pine Tree is poisoned by her old friend Luke who is now bitter at the gods and is working to resurrect Kronos. This weakens the magical borders protecting Camp Half-Blood as Thalia's tree dies from the poison with Chiron being unable to find a way to cure it.

After Percy, Annabeth, Grover, Tyson and Clarisse La Rue retrieve the Golden Fleece, Thalia's tree is healed, and the border is restored.

Grover later brings Percy the news that something had happened the night before while Annabeth was guarding the tree and Annabeth explains that the Golden Fleece was even more powerful than they had thought. Amongst the roots of her trees is Thalia, having been resurrected by the Golden Fleece's magic and now aged several years from when she had died. As Percy, Annabeth and Grover tend to a confused Thalia, she tells Percy that she had the strangest dream that she was dying. After Thalia introduces herself to Percy, he is shocked, realizing that the Great Prophecy may not have been about him after all and Percy wonders if Thalia could be the salvation or the cause of their destruction that the Great Prophecy refers to.
