Annabeth and Percy wrote:
I agree with you about the first part of your comment. Though I deal with being called stupid or anything similar daily, I don't let it get to me. In the moment I do, but it doesn't last long, which I believe a lot of people need to learn how to do instead of continue to dwell on it for days afterwards. But your second part I disagree with. Judging someone because of who their parents are is not fair. You should be cautious around them, but you shouldn't just immediately assume that they're in any way like their parents. They're their own person too. Athena had nerve to act the way she did to Percy, especially since she's hardly apart of Annabeth's life. Percy has had good intentions for her since the very beginning, saving her life many times, and a mother should be able to see that and want that for her daughter and leave it to her daughter to choose who she wants to be with and not make the decision for her. I mean, Frederick's sure seemed to. I have always wondered what Poseidon thought of Annabeth, as he's never really expressed anything about her to Percy. But Artemis was only cold toward Percy for one book while Athena was that way for more than one. Whether she is still or not remains to be seen.
I only exaggerated that because they were saying Athena was cold. She was only cold in this one extreme circumstance. Also, I think her not being part of Annabeth life made her reaction even more understandable. Its like Nico's mom coming back to life and finding him an addict. You feel as if it happened because you weren't there. Athena probably felt as if this is what she gets for letting her daughter live on the streets. I don't think she believed he was like his father truly, its just a heat of the moment type thing. I mean Artemis did the same thing, but when Jason comes along she assumes him to be good with no ridicule, all because of his sisters rep. He could've been a rapist for all she knew. I think that Athena's cold is less harsh and more jut lack of emotion. At first, she was a TOTAL jerk, but now she comes across as(for lack of a better example) an IN-law with high expectations.
Also, I don't think Poseidon feels anything about Annabeth, I think he understands Percy's life only to a certain extent, the demigod half. I don't think he's that into Percy's school life or relationships, men are already distant, gods even more so. And maybe only to Percy for one book. But she litterally loathes every man until proven otherwise. For at least several thousand human lifetimes. I always preferred the innocent until proven guilty mentality.
Well, she wouldn't exactly be the right mother to judge personality, being a distant one and all. Plus with the history of Greek mythology, heroes with good intentions tend to be the ones who kill, betray, cheat on, leave, or be jerks to their wives, ex.Theseus,Minos,Odysseus and Hercules. That being said, I still do see your point because(Get ready for the cliche bomb)
You can't chose your parentage, but you can chose your legacy.
